Learned about my people and roots and how the whole discovering artifacts on your land works. I don’t do museums on trips but I had to see this one finally. Got a guide with me as well and she was super nice and knew her info.

Very informational and wheelchair accessible. Clean bathrooms. The ruins themselves are housed under 2 huge, open-air pavillions that have wire and fence to keep out large wildlife and conserve the remains. It's a pretty easy walk around the structures. The museum at the enterance is air-conditioned.

For 10 bucks it's definitely worth the stop. It's not very common you come across such well kept ruins of the common people. It's neat checking out how the ordinary folk did their thing. The preservation is unparalleled.

Beautiful and well maintained archeological site. I loved walking through the gardens surrounding the excavations. I was also pleased to learn its the only Mayan archeological site showing regular everyday life, not that of the elite (i.e. Tikal).
However, if you're looking for food nearby younhavr to drive a ways away. There are picnic areas if you bring your own. You don't need more than an hour to visit here. Very clean bathrooms!

Amazing place to visit in El Salvador. A visit to this wonderful place makes you feel like you are back in time. The Mayans were just having a good time when the volcano started raining down on them. They had to flee in haste and left everything behind.

The first place to visit at this location is the museum where they have a display of the artifacts that were recovered from the site. Alongside each display is a note with a description of what is being displayed.

After going through the museum, you walk up a short distance to the actual ruin where you get a breathtaking view of the buildings from as far back as 15AD. It is an amazing site and gives you a window into how these really smart people lived and prospered off the land. It is a place you must visit when you are in El Salvador.

Joya de Cerén is also known as the Pompeii of Latin America. It is treasure for the locals and the world. Getting to this site is not as friendly as other sites that I have visited in other countries. They have a small exhibit with artifacts. The actual structures are well protected with permanent roof. I liked this very much as it was a hot day and walking thru the shade made it more tolerable. Then we walked through the garden which has beautiful flowering bushes and fruit trees. Wished they had a gift shop. Always leave with souvenirs but maybe there will be one in the future. awesome place 🤙😎

$ I called the Salvadorian pompey, it was a mayan village cover by the aches of the Volcano , leaving Intact many items & converting food into stone. It's a archeological site with many interesting items. They have a mini museum & you can walk around to see the village

This is a small yet highly interesting site. Despite the heat it was very comfortable to visit even for our 5-mo baby. The museum area is well thought out and informative (info in English, Spanish and French). The structures have numerous info boards and can be visited at leisure as they are enclosed in shaded areas. There are also good rest room facilities onsite. This site, although small, is well worth a visit if you are in the area as it is unlike any other sites we have visited in Mesoamerica (and we have been to a lot!).

A well preserved site of how our ancestors lived due to the ashes from a volcano eruption. With the help from French funding, this site looks amazing. Texts are in Spanish, English and French. The overhead structures helps protect the site and guests from the sun and rain. The replica sauna was pretty cool.

We were on a stop in El Salvadore with our cruise ship. The excursion to Joya de Ceren was interesting. The village was buried in ash 1500 years ago.
The museum was good. The dwellings that had been uncovered were protected by pole sheds so the site is protected. We felt safe during the visit and we were happy we went.

Joya de Cerén is a pre-Columbian site in El Salvador located in the vicinity of San Juan Opico and Las Flores , in the department of La Libertad , in the central-western region of El Salvador . It was inhabited at least since the year 400 by a tributary agricultural town of San Andrés and was abandoned around the year 600 due to the eruption of Laguna Caldera. The site allows you to appreciate the daily life of a Mayan farming town from 1400 years ago ( 7th century ), the only one known in El Salvador .

Loved this place. The museum was amazing. It provides you lots of good information. The archeological area is beautiful and well managed. You can spend a lot of time walking around learning a lot. They also a little market area right outside were can find a lot of nick nacks. Make sure to haggle the prices. Most of the times I was able to reduce the original price between 50 to 75%.

I have gone to all the sites and this one is my top location, after going to all of them first and ending my journey at this location i can appreciate it more. This is the only site in the americas that has been preserved like this, the houses of the pueblos, not the temples. Its very cool.

This place is amazing I would go back anytime. I love archeological museums. Everything is well explain, organized you get to go around the site is big and very well keep, they have an small cafeteria with fresh food. Also they have a souvenir shop. Is a bit far from San Salvador but is worthy to travel the almost 2 hr. A taxi charge us $60 for the day and we stop in 3 different touristic areas no rush just enjoying our day.

Amazing place well worth the visit. The pyramids are nearby at San Andres archeological site and this is where the townsfolk seemed to live. Great to see the normal folks houses and way of life.
