Castle Lietava

This was well worth the hike! Go here during sunset. The trail starts in Lietava and takes about 1 hour to go up. Start on a grassy field going up hill and then once you're in the mountain you'll follow a bike path up. It's absolutely beautiful. The castle is under restoration and you might be able to access it during the day but I'm not sure. The view and limited access was still worth it. You can do this with regular shoes but hiking shoes are recommended. I trekked downhill off the bike path on the right going towards the entrance of the castle. It takes 25 min but it's very steep. It will kick you out to the main road right by the bike path.

be prepared to climb into the castle for 40 minutes. The entrance to the castle itself is free, there is a toilet and a small cafe. The castle itself is in the process of reconstruction and many rooms cannot be visited. but the view from the castle mountain compensates for any inconvenience.

Nice ruins under reconstruction. Hike up is family friendly and there is a small pub during rush days open. Part of the castle is reconstructed with exposition. Outside there are several seating places.

I visit this castle quite often and every time that I go I can see improvements. The repairs work being done deserves a 10 of 10! it’s a nice castle and it’s being treat super well now.. it was abandoned for many many year but that changed luckily. It super nice that don’t have to pay for enter I hope it keeps in this way so more ppl will be encouraged to see it. You can collaborate to repairs by donating anyway.. I prefer that

One of the biggest and best old castles in Slovakia,highly recommended,an easy track and a beautiful view.

Lovely castle. We left the car near the cemetery in Lietavska Svinna and from there, 45minutes walk mainly in the forest. During the walk, there is a place with a bench where you can relax. In the castle there are also some areas to sit down, you can order coffee or beer and lemonade in a castle pub. Everytime we went, it was open.

Nice ruins, nice hike and lots of rally good restoration work by an enthusiastic team. Plus there is beer at the top of a hot walk in the castle.

This castle must have been quite something in its heyday. It's ruined now but still impresses. Restoration is underway at this time. The people are doing a great job.
The hike up to the ruins is relatively looking and may be a bit hard for some but the setting is fantastic. Beautiful mountains as a backdrop, green fields and forests, butterflies,... It's a great walk.
Best of all: no parking fee, no entrance fee. You can explore at leisure.
Highly recommended!

Beautiful castle, they renovating since 1999

Wow! What an amazing sight, such a beautiful castle. It’s being loving restored by dedicated volunteers and they are doing a great job! Lots of information provided and some in English. Resident goats. There is an exhibition also but we were there quite late in the day so it was not open. It’s a bit of a hike up to it but very much worth it. There is a small donation box in the main castle area - please give generously to keep these guys going with their project.

The view is outstanding, the castle is beautiful. It is under permanent careful renovation, but you can visit it for free. If you do so, don't miss the exhibition inside!

It is a beautiful place, great for trip with kids. The guys restoring it made an amazing job.

2hrs walk from Zilina following a nice trail with a mountain view. Even though most inner parts of this castle is broken, highly rated coz of the view from the castle and from the town to the castle

destroyed natural castle , we enjoyed the day in nice weather and mini cafeteria. also goats family :) good enough to track all the way up woth kids :)
