Šaris castle

The castle and keep are at the top of a tree shaded hill. Plenty of parking at the bottom of the hill about a 3km steady hike up to the castle gates. The Avenue up is mostly lined with trees which is great as it was a beautiful hot sunny day in September when we visited (car thermometer stated 39degrees centigrade). There are information boards on the way up which help break up the beautiful hike and give you a little rest if you need one. The entry price to the large hill top castle was only 3euro when we visited and if you wanted the guided tour of the main tour only an extra €2 (2023). The guide was kind enough to speak a little English and then switch to Slovak for the other guests. It was a lovely day hike, nice walk and plenty to look at within the castle walls, lots of work in progress to improve the castle. The views were spectacular on such a beautiful day. Towards the carpathians and depending on the conditions it is possible to see Poland, Ukraine and Hungary we were told. Lovely staff too!

Amazing castle with lovely views of the Presov region at the top. Nice trek up to 1800 feet at the top and friendly staff. Great value for money with good choice of food at the buffet. I last visited Saris Castle about 15 years ago as credit to the staff for the Reconstruction as it was rubble with some goats roaming around.

Beautiful history of Saris area. Bought t-shirt and magnets. Perfect for kids. Option to do BBQ on your own or buy some sausage. Bufet available as well. Wonderful views on hills and areas. Highly recommended

One of the oldest castle in the Presov region. To access the castle, you either have to walk 2kms up the hills or cycle it up. There is a car parking place at the bottom where you can park the car and walk. You get the good view of the city from the top of the castle. The castle is in ruins and there is a entry fee to get inside the castle. Good place to visit if you have some two hours of time when you stay at presov. The road that leads up to the castle from the parking place is not that good and is even risky for the intermediate cyclists.

A huge, beautiful castle ruin on a hilltop overlooking Eastern Slovakia. Helpful tour guide can get you in the tower and has lots of helpful information about this and other castles. Incredible views - you can see Poland, Ukraine and Hungary. Be ready for a walk - 30-45 minute walk through the woods to reach the castle.

Impressive castle, only partly restored, but beautiful views on the surroundings. A very small exhibition in the donjon, only open to visit with a guide, it is worth going up on top for the views (for an extra 2EUR). A nice walk uphill, we spent 3.5 hours in total here, well worth it.

Nice ruins of castle. The area is used as a picnic park, so bring some food with you. You can even sleep in one of the old towers.

Nice restoration&activity, with such care this will be excelent place for visitors.

Nice walk to the castle ruins through the forrest. Only walls and few towers remain of it however parts of the castle are currently being reconstructed. The place has magnificent views on the surrounding landscape.

Magic place! Nice walk from parking thru beautiful old forest. On the top you can see spectacular old castle from 13th century. Definitely you must see it :)

Very nice place, considering there were only ruins some time ago, a lot of effort was put into it to make it a nice place worth a visit. Barbecue places, small snacks and beverages to buy, nice restoration works. On a nice day, the walk is pretty easy, 1h on the way up at super slow pace.

Beautiful historic site, very important to the Šariš region. Šarišský Hrad -Šariš Castle- really is an open air museum. They have been doing reconstruction on it since 2006 and work is still in progress. I can only imagine what it is going to look like when it's finished. It's a long hike up the hill. The elderly and people with health problems may find it difficult. I'm not sure if there's an alternative way to go up.

Along the trail you'll find signs with info about the geography -who knew it was an 11 million year old volcano?!-, plant- and animal life. All very interesting.

A must go and see if you're in the neighborhood.

No high hopes when going there, the major surprise upon arrival - a huge castle territory where a lot has been and is being done. The view from the donjon is absolutely stunning! You are able to see the half of Eastern Slovakia from there.

Beautiful place to visit located om the East of Slovakia. Nicr short one hour trip from near village.

You can see 10 castles from the top.

Classic Slovak castle, steep walk to top. Annual 31st December morning visit was super.....500 plus people eating Gulas and cooking sausages.

Beautiful place. Great sightseeing. Easy to reach on bike, too. Child friendly. There is a small playground.
