Articular church in Kežmarok (UNESCO)

One of the best preserved Slovak wooden sacral buildings is the articled Evangelical Church of the Holy Trinity (Kostol sv. Tojice) in Kežmarok. In 2008, along with seven wooden churches of the Slovak part of Carpathian Mountain Area, it was included on the UNESCO Word Heritage List.

The first building of the church was built already in 1687. In 1717 it was rebuilt and given the present shape .
The church is sacred to the Holy Trinity. Protestants from the whole northern Europe financially supported the building. Swedish and Danish kings ordered whip-rounds in their countries to support the building of this church.
The construction was carried out without using a single nail. The clay plastered exterior walls are rather misguiding whereby only shingle roof suggests that it´s really a wooden jewel. The wooden church also called “articular church” offers 1500 places to sit on the ground floor and six choirs.

The wooden evangelical church was written into the List of the UNESCO World Heritage, within the scope of the enlistment of the Wooden Churches of the Slovak part of the Carpathian Mountain Area in 2008.

Unfortunately, it was forbidden to use camera there, but the church is worth a visit. Its free (with option to pay for commented tour).

Very beautiful church with striking mix of sublime and naïve pieces of ecclesiastical art and interior decorations. Definitely worth a visit inside. Access every half an hour with a guide who speaks for Slovak audience while we got a flier with explanations in English language. Entry ticket 3 Eur per person which also allows entry to neighboring new Evangelical church.

Gyönyörű kis evangélikus templom fraskókkal, díszes barokk oltárral és aranyozott orgonával.
A semmitmondó külső mögött ámulatba ejtő belső rejtőzik.

Jeden z najkrajších kostolov vyrobených z dreva. Unikát. Výklad na 1* Odporúčam navštíviť.

Kostol je dodnes aktívnym miestom stretávania sa evanjelikov pri nedeľných Službách Božích.

Pre svoju skvelú akustiku slúži aj ako koncertná sieň. Konajú sa tu koncerty významných interpretov,

od sólistov až po orchestrálne zoskupenia, literárne večery, rôzne stretnutia a pod.

Drevený artikulárny evanjelický kostol v Kežmarku je výsledkom krásy a umenia. Je v ňom výborná akustika a poriadajú v ňom organové koncerty

Drewniany kościół artykularny to chyba jeden z bardziej charakterystycznych zabytków Słowacji. Nie bez powodu został wpisany na listę UNESCO. Koniecznie trzeba go odwiedzić, robi niesamowite wrażenie, zwłaszcza jego wnętrze - freski na suficie, ołtarz i chrzcielnica.

Pekný kostol, kus histórie a ľudského umu. Napriek obmedzeniam dokázali starí majstri vytvoriť niečo také krásne. Klobúk dole.

Krásny evanjelický drevený kostol, hoci z vonka vyzerá ako keby ani nebol z dreva. Vnútro kostola priam ohromí. Je tu vidieť kus histórie a zručnosť starých majstrov. Pani ktorá tam bola nám podala veľmi zaujímavý a obšírny výklad o histórii a aj o súčasnosti kostola. Bola ochotná odpovedať aj na otázky. Bolo cítiť jej záujem o kostol a že ho má rada.

Nádherny kostol,slovami sa to nedá opísať.Zaujimavá historia kostola a veľmi dobre podaná. Dokonca je možnosť si celý výklad prečítať aj v inej reči.

Krásny až rozprávkový kostol. Určite jednou z najkrajších pamiatok ktoré som navštívila na východe Slovenska a určite mojou najobľúbenejšou v Kežmarku.
