Slovenský Orloj v Starej Bystrici

Unique place to visit and observe the small town/village of Stará Bystrica transformation. This clock is the only one of its kind located in Slovakia. A motor room is available for visit as well. Souvenirs and a coffee shop are located on the site.

Stará Bystrica is located between forest mountains and has an medieval and dark history. Town suffered a lot of events like plagues, floods and droughts. If you want to visit vibe of ancient atmosphere, this place is the right choice.

It is beautiful. Granted, not as old or big as the one in Prague... But this is unique too. You can walk into the clockwork tower and see the orloj's mechanism behind a glass. There's not much else to see, luckily Terchová is only 21km away.

Very cool, I actually waited for 40 minutes just to watch the "orloj" in action. Only a few people, not as it is at Pragues "Orloj"

Cute place to stop at. We stop by while traveling from Námestovo and happened to be around before full hour.

Beautiful place in Slovakia

Really great astronomical clock. Make sure you're there before the hour. Every hour the clock strikes and a whole 'show' starts.
The surroundings are also very pleasant with some places to drink and eat in a visually pleasing setting.

The town square with astronomical clock was very cosy and pleasing.

Real piece of art. Both building and the Orloj. Surrounded with nice cafes/pubs so there are places for you to sit down with drink while you are waiting for Orloj to start the show.

The biggest wooden statue in Slovakia is situated in Stará Bystrica. It figures the sitting Virgin Mary - the patron of Slovakia. Several architects, carvers, technicians, builders, stonemasons from Slovakia and the Czech Republic participated in the process of its construction.

Six bronze sculptures are placed in the niches of the astronomical clock: Prince Pribina and King Svätopluk from our ancient history, A.Bernolák and Ľudovít Štúr, the codifiers of the standard Slovak language from the 19th century and Milan Rastislav Štefánik and Andrej Hlinka from the 20th century.

Worth seeing, nice bicycle ride for families from Kysucký Lieskovec. And you can get to Kysucký Lieskovec by Bus with your bikes several times a day.

Great! It's nice to see the hourly mechanism, and there is a woman after that who explains all the stuff related to the clock (unfortunately we didn't understand a word because it was in Slovak, but we liked it anyway).

Peaceful version of Prague astronomical clock

The only one in Slovakia. It is new and reminds us the important persons in the Sleepvak history as well.

nice to see this clock - I was there on Saturday and nobody was there watching.
