It was a cold and blustery walk up to the castle ruins, but well worth it! It was especially more interesting considering that from behind the castle walls, I could see the village where my great grandfather was born.

Also, at the ticketing desk, they also sell fresh coffee and espresso which was a life saver.

Beautiful views. I hadn't anticipated the long trek up from the parking lot. Make sure you wear comfortable shoes, have plenty of sunscreen, and water.

Beautiful medieval castle ruins with some exhibition as well. The walk up is not so hard and can be easily managed by anyone who can walk for 20 or so minutes up the not-so-steep hill.

Enjoyed the views as well, there is number of spots where you can take some really nice portraits.

They take a good care of the place, renovating one step at a time, and can use any money you can spare to make this piece of history nicer and nicer.

They serve refreshments here as well, which is a nice bonus. You need to bring cash though 💶

Recommend, definitely will visit again :)

The view of the castle is most impressive from the village of Višňové. The easiest access, however, is by car from Čachtice. The road brings you to a parking lot a short 15 minutes walk from the castle. The access is easy and can be done with strollers. The castle itself (entrance fee of currently 2.50€ for adults) offers information in Slovak, English, German and Hungarian. The offered views are nice and with some imagination you can feel the spirit of the ancient time when exploring the site. Recommended for all interested in the local history.

Very nice castel ruine, with an intetesting 'scary movie' history. Historically well-known and documented center of "bloody" Elizabeth Bathory and her family. Guided tours in summer time, small turist train to pick you up and drop you off in the village center, otherwise you can still walk by your own. Somehow handicapped-friendly, with proper assistance. You can manage both Cachtice as well as Beckov within one day, with an evenning stop-by in Podolie 'Mini-Park' of almost 100 beautiful models of selected Slovak castels and historical monuments.

Recommended! Adult entrance ticket is currently 4.50€, it's possible to pay by card/cash. There is a small exhibition about the former owners and about the legend around Elisabeth Bathory's life and death. The castle itself is in ruins with some parts of the upper palace being currently repaired. Views are quite stunning.

Great castle in ruins. A small museum about Elizabeth Bathory inside and occasional guided tours. One of the more impressive ones after Spiš and Devin. Wirth checking if you’re in the area just to learn more about the legendary woman.

Just beautiful 🏰!!! Not for the not so fit to hike up the mountain though. But hey, it is worth the climb, so you better get your butt up the 🏰😂😂😂. The beautiful castle plus the amazing view from the 🏰 is just amazing! It doesn't end there... The legend about the Bathory... I'm not telling...🙊 Just visit the Castle! 😜

Čachtice Castle is a castle ruin in Slovakia next to the village of Čachtice. It stands on a hill featuring rare plants, and has been declared a national nature reserve for this reason. The castle was a residence and later the prison of the Countess and alleged serial killer Elizabeth Báthory.

Čachtice was built in the mid-13th century by Kazimir from the Hont-Pázmány gens as a sentry on the road to Moravia. Later, it belonged to Matthew Csák, the Stibor family, and then to Elizabeth Báthory. Čachtice, its surrounding lands and villages, was a wedding gift from the Nádasdy family upon Elizabeth's marriage to Ferenc Nádasdy in 1575.

Originally, Čachtice was a Romanesque castle with an interesting horseshoe-shaped residence tower. It was turned into a Gothic castle later and its size was increased in the 15th and 16th centuries. A Renaissance renovation followed in the 17th century. In 1708 the castle was captured by the rebels of Francis II Rákóczi. It was neglected and burned down in 1799. It was left to decay until it was turned into a tourist attraction in 2014.

Terrifying place! Hard to imagine such a wicked woman was allowed to commit so many atrocities here. I found a ton of bones (most likely human) on the back side of the castle where they recently ripped out some old thorn trees. God help the souls of all those poor innocent girls. It us an easy walk slightly uphill from a small gravel parking lot. It was closed for winter, but we still walked all around the outside of the castle.

Supposedly haunted by the Blood Countess Elizabeth Bathory. Hauntingly beautiful, but not haunted.
