Gornjak Monastery

Beautiful monastery, beautiful Serbia. If you enjoy the mineral waters in Banja Zdrelo, come see the monastery and have lunch at the excellent restaurant next to it. The attached video is from the terrace of the restaurant, the music comes from the monastery itself. And wonderful rakija, too...

The Monastery treasures mysteries. Some relics of St. Lazar, Serbian medieval king have been transferred here in 2022. The relics of St. Grigorije located here, are believed to have healing powers. The hermit monk's cave above the Monastery is the place where water leaks down the rock, only once a year, at dawn of May 6, the orthodox church holiday of St. George. This water, considered as St. Grigorije's tears, mysteriously heals eye health symptoms. People gather here to collect it with a spoon. St. Gtigorije urged King Lazar to erect here the Church of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary, celebrated in the East on November 21 (Julian) since the 6th century.

Monastery Gornjak is a 14-century Serbian Orthodox monastery that tourists can find on the left bank of the River Mlava along high cliffs. One restaurant and guest house allow short stays and enjoyment of untouched, astonishing nature.

Cool little monastery set into the side or the hill. Definitely recommend stopping by, even if you're not Orthodox Christian.

The monastery has a beautiful harden and is very quiet. You can, also, follow the road to the left of the entrance and enjoy a peaceful walk by the river Mlava, towards a very serene forest clearing.

This is the place I recommend for everyone to visit! The monastery is built inside the mountain, surrounded by mountains from all the sides and a river. There is a restaurant which is really nice and has a great view of monastery and the nature itself. The restaurant itself isn't expensive and is really nicely organised.

Small and peaceful monestery set along the Mlava river, there are several small rest areas in the vicinity of monastery where you can lunch or you can go in the restaurant which is located above monastery grounds. Monastery gates are closed after the 18pm.

After hiking tour we went and visited Gornjak Monastery. If you are travelling in this direction it is worth a visit. There is also a nice restaurant near by the parking lot with views over Monastery.
