Monastery of Saint Roman near Ražanj

Very peaceful place hides a monastery of Saint Roman from the 9th century.
It is also the place where the heart of general Nikolay Nikolayevich Raevsky aka count Vronsky from Lav Tolstoi best known love story resides.

It's one of the oldest monasteries in the territory of Serbia, not to much big but beautiful!

Significant religious and historical place. A beautiful old monastery, hidden in the woods, dedicated to the monk Roman Sinait, a famous healer and later a saint. In the monastery is the tomb of St. Roman, and in the courtyard is the place where the heart of Nikolaj Nikolajevic Rajevski is buried. He was a Russian colonel who fought alongside the Serbs against the Turks in the 19th century. Based on him, Lav Tolstoj created a character, so called count Vronski, when he wrote novel “Ana Karenjina”

A heartwarming story about the forever brotherhood between Serbia and Russia is something to remember and is connected to this monastery. Ana Karenina story is connected to this monastery.

One of the oldest orthodox monastery in Serbia, founded during the period before Nemanjići. Just a km of the main road and a few km from highway. It has a lovely church store selling its own manufactring

Very interesting architecture of the church, beautiful position, near Aleksinac city, dates from IX century, dedicated to Saint Roman, known as healer for mental deseases and for couples who couldn't have children. There is a shop within, with variety of nature products. I buy honey and domestic rakija, traditional Serbian brandy.

St. Roman monastery is one of the oldest in Serbia. Me and my family love to go there its so relaxing. Also there is a St.Roman tomb where people ask for help and blessings. Many of those who have had problems with getting pregnant ask for help here and two of our friends were blessed with beautifull children after opening their soul and truthfully praid at his grave. In monastery you can find a grave of duke Vronski from Ana Karenjina. His heart was burried here after he died in fight for liberation of Serbia from Otoman Empire rule. Also there is a natural spring with drinkable watter that helps with eyes problems.

Worth visiting.

St . Roman is one of the Serbian oldest monastery ( 1010 ) , is recognized to give not only hope for locals within their prayers, but for many who came for prayer in health where given miraculous gifts of cure.
I would definitely recommend this holy place for visitors that are near by.

Very significant monastery. From IX centuries.

Serbian monastery from the 10th century, it is believed that Saint Roman has healing powers, be sure to drink water from a spring and mention the name of a dear person for health in prayer.

It is so expertly built, fantastic structure, awesome peaceful place, you can relax in silence surrounded with lot of greenery, roses in various colours. The legend says that a girl went to get some water at the spring and the Holy Mother of God appeared and said that sick people would be healed there and that church should be built there. It happened on July 1898. It was first a small one, but the present one was built later.
2. First we went to Ribarska banja (Fishing or Fishermen Spa). The name came after fishermen who were fishing the trout at springs there (near Kruševac) of exquisite quality for Knez Lazar. But the use of its healing quality or capacity dates back from far past in Roman times and 4th. century AD, which can be seen from archaeological remains in the vi inity of the spa... At the beginning a simple primitive wooden hut was built... Ruined in the 19th. Century. Only at the beginning of the 20th century, owing to King Petar I Karadjordjevic, its real development began. One of the important people and founder of more modern spa was a philanthropist Miloš Savčić, after the I World War. Its actually a long story, but I will only add that it was renowned in 2011,and it is a great healing centre for rheumatism, arthritis, nerves, eyes, etc, etc. due to its springs.
