Unfortunately, when we visited, it was closed for renovations, but you could see it's beautiful from the outside, and from photos taken in it on the internet, it would be worth visiting when it's open again. It was built during medieval times (14th century), and has many buildings. It is the main tourist attraction of the town of Aiud 👌🏽

The citadel is a reformat church! It is in a great shape refurbished by EU founds. Unfortunately, you can not visit it the popes house in the rest of the rooms, the central part is the main church. It is impressive from outside. Enjoy!

Great place to visit love the town and the history. Currently it is under maintanace(june, 2023). No tickets needed unless you go visit the museum where the famous wedge of Aiud was found. An alloy found deep in the trenches of the castle wich predates the citadel itself.(Interesting)The wedge is metal alloy wich was imposible to make at the time as it is pre bronze age depth and its actual origins remain a mystery to this day.

Aiud Citadel (Cetatea Aiudului in Romanian) is located in the center of Aiud, and was built during medieval times (14th century), comprising many buildings. It is the main tourist attraction of Aiud. The citadel is fairly small, with a perimeter of 350 metres, and it is in the form of an irregular pentagon. The earliest documented evidence of the citadel extant today dates from 7 November 1293, a privilege issued by King Ladislaus IV - King of Hungary (1272–1290), but local tradition holds that the first stone watch tower was finished during the Mongol invasion of Europe in 1241. Other important events for the citadel: the serfs uprisings from 1437; the conquest of Michael the Brave; the Habsburg attack in 1704 and 1717; the Christian uprising - Religious war in 1758 - 1761; the peasant movement from 1784 and the Revolutionary wave of 1848 - 1849.

A wonderful village. I am romanian but when I got there it felt like another country entirely. The houses are white with green windows and a lot of flowers. There is a scenic route through the streets of the village, that we took twice in two days because was very beautiful. Once in the day and once in the evening. There are at least five routes to the mountains on each side of the valley. We had time only to visit Piatra Secuiului and Colții Trascăului but was paid in full by the views! Take a lot o photos. There are three locations where you can eat and a market. There is also a coffee shop.

The church was closed and no one around to contact, however the place still looks majestic. Good news is that renovation work was under way, so the municipality looks after their heritage.

A historically picturesque citadel that holds a church inside of it, with multiple towers associated with different guilds that date back to as early as the 15th-16th century. Having been constructed in the 1300s by the immigrating Saxons in Transylvania, the citadel stands strong against the test of time giving guests the opportunity to visit a historical, old, and valuable testimony of foreign peoples' hard work and excellency.
