Comana Monastery

The oldest church monastery from Romania 620 years old, Comana Monastery has witnessed a troubled yet brave history of the Romanian land. We were moved and happy to be able to visit it. The interior of the old church cannot be photographed, so we took pictures only from the inside the paraclise ( the new church).

Comana is a place where you can take a long walk, you can visit the Comana church/monastery, a very beautiful one, near Neajlov river. There is a big place /adventure park where adults or kids cand stay 3 hours or more to play in the trees , to walk from a tree to another in the air 😁 or to climb a huge wall, or to fly over a lake using "tiroliana". They close the park at 5.pm. you can eat there at 2 restaurants:one with fish , one with "mici"/cevapi, and other grill meat. You can park your car outside the park. You can see a lot of birds on the lake. Overall, it is a great place to relax.

This well-known monastery is also a historical monument build up by Vlad the Impaler. It is considered the most probable burial place of this ruler. Apart of the spiritual meaning and legends, inside this site there is a mausoleum for soldiers who fought in WWI, as well as a monument dedicated to Anglo-American pilots who died around Comana in WWII. A must-see place, close to Bucharest!

Today we visited the holy monastery Comana, a special place with a lot of history. The monastery, the main body, is under renovation, services are held in the mausoleum that preserves the remains of soldiers who fell in the First World War.
Although it does not have the brilliance and luster of other similar places, the emotional, soul and religious load of the place is felt. I have been to this monastery several times, which gives me peace of mind, so I recommend visiting it, being close to Bucharest as well. Also nearby is Comana Adventure Park

This is a very quaint little monastery with a rich history in antiquity and more recent. It was established by Vlad Tepes and it is near the location where British flyers crashed and perished during the war.

A place to visit and worship. Calm am relaxing. It has a crypt with the remains of the soldiers from WW1.

Not much to say, I usually visit churches for achitechture. The nice part, behind the church is a gate that leads to stairs towards Neajlov river. And water is so clear. There are shells visible.

Not to miss for history lovers. Inside the monastery’s yard there is also a museum where you can learn a lot about the local history and a crypt of WW1 soldiers.

located 30 km from bucuresti comana is a religious edifice founded by vlad tepes in 1461, ruined at the end of the XVI century, rebuilt by radu serban in 1588. serban cantacuzino begins its restoration, the walls and adds some elements as well as new cells starting with the year 1699. The monastery gradually degrades until 1854 when the church rebuilds. In the monastery yard, next to the church, there is an edifice where 762 heroes were buried. Comana is currently a monastery of monks. of the original construction still retains today restored, only the northern and western side of the cells, and in the ruin still lasts the wall on the eastern side and a fragment attached to the tower. walk out through the lake gate. is very quiet.

Cool place to visit even though you are not into religion. A historical place nonetheless.

Beautiful ortodox monastery and mausoleum for the Romanian (and not only) war heroes. The place is well restored and run by nice people. The priest knows very well the history of the places and willing to share with the guest his stories. There is also a nice museum in the yard and a nice area to walk along the small and nice river around it. The entrance is free. You may buy gifts and food at the shop just outside the monastery. It is a beautiful experience and definitely worth visiting

Clean,nice memorable place.

Interesting place full of history! Is very well preserved and you can find interesting information. The Monastery also has a nice backyard garden on the shore of the river. It’s a recommended stop on your way to Comana Adventure Park.

In renovation but year by year become better as understand and compare with oldest pictures.

Very cert beautiful place. There is a lake, short walk paths through the woods, and benches to rest.
