Absolutely amazing place. The dam is really a masterpiece of modern construction and it's size is astonishing. Enjoyed this place very much. You can even take a boat on the Vidraru Lake near the dam.

Be careful with the falling rocks and all the bears that climb down the mountain. There are MANY of them (we passed by as a group of motorcycles and they had nothing to do with us). Other than that, beautiful scenery, definitely worth visiting.

Just after the dam there’s a very nice treehouse where they serve great and affordable homemade bbq meat. But bring cash.

Stunning view! Also near by, a very popular place to see bears by the street! Don't feed them though, you are not doing them any favors..

Great panoramic view, also you can find there stairs to get to the observation platform, you can fear a bit during elevation process but it's worth it because panorama you will get there is even better - you will be able to see gorge on the left and the basin on the right.

Interesting place to check which you can visit if you are crossing Transfagarasan form one side to another. Make sure you park your car properly as I saw police how is watching this.

I have visited this place in Summer and in Automn. I would suggest visiting it in summer, it's looking green and there's more water in the lake. However it's a definitely a place to visit.

That is a huge and monumental building.

There is a lot of tourists.

But be careful walking on the dam because this is a road and there are some crazy drivers.

Very impressive dam with cool echo effects and a lookout tower.

The tower is open from 08:00 to 17:00.

We came after closing hours and we're unable to go up, but the place was nice nonetheless.

The security guard kindly mentioned that we could park along the road next to the tower.

What an absolute gem. Beautiful view, and such an impressive construction. Yes, there were bears but the police reacted quickly and they were bit in the area where people were walking but further down. Plenty of wild dogs in the area too but they’re friendly and just hope for a piece of sausage. Loads of cars are stopping by but you’ll get your time slot too and will be able to see this beauty.

Great views, easily accessible.

The only con is that it's always full there and no place to park. A lot of trash everywhere, but that's also due to the fact that there aren't enough/any trashcans and people end up throwing their trash in the lake.

Also, in the last years they closed down some nice viewpoints because of bears.

If you go a bit further than the main points of interest, you'll end up seeing some awesome sights and get some great pics without people photobombing you :

All in all, a great stop on your way towards Transfăgărășan.

Great view throughout the year. A bit touristy services. Sadly you can’t visit the dam innards though it would be interesting. It is the starting point of one of the most beautiful roads on our planet.

Good place for stop and some sightseeing. Dam which is not much smaller then famous Hoover”s Dam in US.

Beautiful place, breathtaking views, definitely worth a stop if you are in the area! There is also the possibility to take a boat trip on the lake and admire de majestic cliffs (but not off-season).

Spectacular dam, up in the mountains, it’s definitely a must see

Amazing journey up the Transfogarasan which starts really a bit before here. Be aware the European brown bears roam freely just a bit past the public stopping point. They are lovely to see but they cannot be considered friendly, just don't get too close! Views around here are fabulous.

Must stop viewpoint! Loved it going all the way up with the stairs and taking pictures from above. Fabulous!

Lovely view point! Home to the top gear scene where they wake up at the bottom of the dam. Go up the tower for the best views.

A unique place on the Transfagarash highway. The structure is huge and next to it's an equally huge lake. It turned out to be a miracle for me and brought peace to my soul. But a dog who lives on the territory (photo) - be careful! The dog looks kind but in the end it snapped up and tore the coat. I don't think she's being fed and she's just hungry 🙏
