For some people these are just ruins with no meaning....but these thousands of years roman habitats are full "energy". U also want to go the museum they have across the street and talk to the very knowledgeable guide that takes care of the place. He is the best👏👏👏👏👏

Great experience. You will need to visit  the museum first before you come to Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa. The entry fee is 14 lei ( that's the price to see both).  When you visit the Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa there is so much to see. If you're interested in history, of course. Highly recommended for those who are passionate about history. There is a free car park where you can leave your car while visiting.

Loved it! Loved that the archeology team was still there, continuing the search.
What a privilege to see the ruins of what was an amazing civilization, learning about the way they lived and how they used the area.

The Roman site is amazing, there are the remains of the amphitheatre, the forum and the house of the Procurator. The greatest value is its originality and to see the remains where they belong. There's a small museum with pottery and instruments among other interesting things, but the guide is only in Romanian.

The recommendation is to first visit the nearby museum from across the street, and use the same ticket for the entrance to the location.
There's a lot to see - surprisingly much. Prepare for a long walk and allocate at least 30 minutes if you're a quick visiter.

The place is really a piece of history. There’s a museum across the road to be visited first, then the site. Some of the ruins are under restauration, as well as the Arena. Unfortunately there was no turist’s guide to explain about the place.

This is an awesome historical place. I would almost call it Rome Lite. It's got an amphitheatre, temples, and a forum. A lot of Roman ruins, highly interesting to anyone that is interested in historical artefacts, particularly from the Roman era.

I recently had the opportunity to visit Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, an ancient Roman city located in Hunedoara County, Romania. This archaeological site offers a fascinating glimpse into the Roman Empire's presence in this region. Here's my review of this historical gem:

First Impressions:
Upon arriving at Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa, I was immediately struck by the beautiful surroundings and the sense of stepping back in time. Nestled in the picturesque Orăștie Mountains, the site is surrounded by lush greenery, which adds to its charm. The well-maintained pathways and informational signs make it easy to navigate and understand the significance of each structure.

Historical Significance:
Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa was established as a Roman colony in the 2nd century AD and played a crucial role in the Roman Empire's expansion into the region. The city served as an administrative, military, and cultural center, and its ruins offer a remarkable insight into the Roman way of life. The main highlights include the forum, amphitheater, thermal baths, and the partially reconstructed colonnaded street.

Preservation and Interpretation:
The preservation of the site is commendable, with many of the structures and architectural elements still visible, despite the passage of time. The ongoing archaeological work and restoration efforts have made it possible to appreciate the grandeur of the ancient city. Additionally, the informative displays and panels throughout the site provide valuable historical context and enhance the visitor experience.

Visitor Experience:
The visitor facilities at Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa are well-maintained, with clean restrooms and a visitor center offering further information about the site's history. However, I would have appreciated the availability of more guided tours or audio guides to provide in-depth explanations and stories about the different areas.

Overall, my visit to Ulpia Traiana Sarmizegetusa was a captivating journey into the Roman past of Romania. The historical significance, combined with the natural beauty of the surroundings, made it a truly memorable experience. I would highly recommend this site to anyone interested in Roman history or those looking to explore the cultural heritage of this region.

Mucho wow. Seems most of the site is still uncovered. There are several archeological teams diging up unseen parts of the site. Lots of it is under comunist buildings and other facilities build without during grey times when nobody cared about history. Anyways the romans hat this as formers Dacia capital streching from Zlatna to the Black Sea.

Not very big but looks nice. There are 2 terraces near for food, drinks and branded magnets. Across it you can find acommodation rooms.

This is the roman-dacian settlement where the people of the older pure dacian Sarmitzegetusa in the mountains went to. (Some Google Reviewers tend to mix that up and post wrong pictures here.) After the romans had conquered the old dacian hillfort ~50 km away, this new city in the flats was created. It had all the typical roman stuff: Forum, Spa, Arena....little entrance fee, parking and eateries in front. If you go in from the village side you maybe can save the entrance fee. There were no further controls or guards but this may change in high season.
