For Gerald Durrell fans:
This was the end of the "autoviá" 75 cm gauge railway, which was lined into the "Chaco", roughly ~220 km to the east. The main line had two ~90 angle bends on the way, to the endpoint Fortín Teniente Montanía. At the 84th km it had a long branch to the north, to Punta Rieles ("Rail-Head"). Four other short branches were exist to the south. Some of the small locos are still here as a derelict memento of industrial investor Carlos Casado's hardwood transport railway net.

Durrell had a wildlife expedition here at Puerto Casado (later renamed to La Victoria) in 1954, until a local Revolution forced him to leave the area, back to Argentina. More details in "The Drunken Forest" book.
