Retiro do Escova

Fantastic authentic Portuguese little restaurant in Santiago do Cacem. We visited this place for dinner, during our stay in this city in June 2021. Although the place was busy, the owner/staff give us a nice table and took some time to explain the different menu’s. Price/quality wise I think you cannot find a better place to have dinner in the area… . We had “bacalhau a bras” (typical Portugese dish) and grilled pork, both were delicious, as well as the house wine !

We found this place by chance and thank god we did!! It felt like food was made by my mum with all her love :) The portions are super generous (1 portion serves 2 easily!). The menu covers traditional portuguese dishes like Bacalhau à Braz and Lamb stew. The staff was super nice (family business) and last but not least, the place was immaculate clean (including the toilets). Great value for money too. Totally recommended 😀

great experience all around. the owners were very helpful with our lack of Portugese and explained the menu very clearly. i had the cod mixed with egg chips... delicious and filling! my wife had the calamari. it was large chunks and very fresh. this was a great first meal on our Portugal Holiday cycling down to Saint Vincent

Very nice food, good portions, especially much meat. Wine very delicate. Dessert as well. Has WiFi for free use. Nice Portuguese cuisine

The owner of the restaurant deserves the loudest applause!!! Everything was perfect from the welcome talk to the end of the evening. We strongly recommend to visit this place on any occasion.

Di passaggio qui a Santiago mi sono trovato a mangiare in questa trattoria, che dire... proprietario gentilissimo, stufato di vitella a dir poco sublime per cottura e sapore! Recensisco prima del conto perché ho gia dato la mia valutazione aldilà del prezzo! Una scoperta nell'entroterra portoghese che porterò per sempre nel mio cuore!

Super restaurant familial à la cuisine authentique. Accueil charmant. Monsieur et son fils sont en salle, Madame est en cuisine et les clients se régalent sur les tables en bois vernies dans une atmosphère chaleureuse. Pas de carte, seulement des plats du jour. Ce soir, les calamars et le lapin nous ont régalés. Le vin Monte dos Perdigoes était délicieux. Les plats étaient très copieux mais nous avons fait honneur jusqu'au bout, dessert inclus (banoffee) avec plaisir. Le patron est aussi un excellent francophone.

Restaurante com um ambiente acolhedor e colaboradores muitos simpáticos. A comida é excelente com um boa relação preço/qualidade. Recomendo!
