Breathtaking views! Was also very impressed by the movie inside the museum about the current friendship of two sides of the river, beautifully done.
We were able to park right outside the castle, but I'd indeed recommend not to go inside the old city with the car. The streets are very narrow, and sometimes it is not even enough space to make a turn. If you get a car opposite, you're just stuck.
Recommended to take a water taxi to the opposite side of the river, it deparures every 30min and is very cheap.

Walked around the impressive walls outside. Great views across the river. Museum inside and walk round battlements with even better views

Such a lovely town and area. The views from the castle are beautiful. I highly recommend that you park on the outskirts of town and walk in. The parking in the town is very limited, but the narrow village "streets" are very restrictive and there are not many areas to make a u-turn if your vehicle won't 'fit!

Really lovely village with historical interests , such as the castle. Beautiful riverside restaurants , cafes and others within the village. Lots to explore, also Alcoutim has its own mobile cinema , we saw parked in one of the back streets!

Great spot. Amazing views. 2 really good exhibitions and all for 2.52 euro (a rather silly price as they seemed to be struggling with change). Lovely spot.

Alcoutim is a charming & very friendly villa that constantly hosts festivals & colorful events to attract tourism. Also features a very inexpensive youth hostel with excellent accommodations & beautiful view, to enjoy several nights of peace & quiet

Although a small castle it is very welcoming, clean and beautiful. You can also learn about the Alcotim's history and appreciate the nice view.

It's a bit of a drive from the main tourist hotspots, but this means it keeps away the hordes. VERY traditional. Really picturesque, probably will get ruined by instagrammers. If you go, theres not much but a real change in pace of life. Sit and soak up the slow pace. The trip across the river is nice, bit the Spanish side doesn't seem to have as much to offer, however you can zipline back across to portugal. PROPERLY GOOD FUN!!!! If you want really trad Portuguese food walk up to O Rio cafe/ restaurant. Not a word of English spoken but food is really Portuguese. Ask for the dish of the day and you be well in. Make the effort to speak Portuguese even if it means turning to a translation app; it pays dividends in them opening up to you. You can go to some river beaches and there are watersports, but we didn't have time. We will be going back again.
