Restaurante Burro Velho

First time here, a total guess and a huge surprise. This amazing restaurant just outside of Mosteiro da Batalha has incredible dishes and desserts (see photos). Friendly staff and a very good decorated space (the room with writings on the walls). Without a doubt, a place to come back.

A great gem very close to the monastery. Great food for both Meat and Fishing, lovely deserts too. The outside space wasn't great as the rest was full. The service was also 5 star

May 25, 2022: Was driving from Porto to Lisbon and randomly searched for a good restaurant and this was the location.

Not only I had the best view of the church while sitting outside but very yummy lamb food that I ordered. The fries were fresh and cooked to the perfection.

The staff had a good command on English so didn’t have any communication issues. The restaurant was clean with all the facilities you need.

We went there on Saturday after 2 p.m. without reservation. There were many guests and most of them are locals. The steak and octopus which we ordered were both perfect! The seafood spaghetti was little bit dry and not so juicy as the common Italian variant, but still flavorful. The price is little bit high, but according to the location, the portion and the food’s quality, totally reasonable. We would like to come again for sure.

Lovely restaurant. Felt affluent. I was glad I was wearing a collared shirt. We ordered the $70 euro Arroz con Marisco and it was wonderful. Easily shared for 3 people, maybe 4 if it’s lunch. The garlic bread was very good.

Stunning meal, atmosphere is authentic and table service is phenomenal. Highly recommended for visitors wanting authentic Portuguese cuisine, you will NOT be disappointed 😉

Seafood rice takes 35 minutes to cook but is worth the wait, lot’s shrimps, fish and lobster.

Very busy restaurant, very delicious food, very kind waiters. The shrimp pasta was very fresh.

The name of the restaurant translates into “old donkey “. Hands down some of the best food in Portugal. We happened to stumble upon this place with a little help from Google maps reviews. We were pleasantly surprised. The food quality was excellent and service was attentive. Locals sure knew this place. It’s also conveniently located next to the monastery .

A great lunch stop right by the Monastery. Service was great and seafood meals were divine. We especially enjoyed the rice and seafood pot - the taste of the broth was so special and captures the essence of Portuguese food. Highly recommend!

We ate here on recommendation of our hotel reception. We walked in without a booking & were given a great table overlooking the square & monastery. I had shrimp spaghetti & my wife had the pork & shrimp mains. Both were delicious. Our waiter brought a Douro red wine which he chose to compliment our meals which was very good & cost €13 for the bottle! Our meal was superb, excellent quality and value for money total cost €52.

Restaurant is easy to find and a bit costly but definitely worth stepping in.
We had one of our best seafood meals in there.
Ordered pasta with shrimps and clams, just amazing portion of pasta and seafood in it.

Excellent meal. The black pork strips (plumas de porco preto) were perfectly seasoned and grilled plus the accompaniments were terrific. All at a great price with friendly efficient service.
