View to the lake is beautiful, dishes are great and tasty, stuff is very kind. We tried grilled fish and duck with orange. Both were excellent.

Excellent food, setting, and friendly service. Prices are elevated but you will not get this view in any other restauarnt near Tomar with this quality of food. Foreign guests love it. This is our special place! Great views and atmosphere. The food is Portuguese, but the care and special preparation make every item on the menu a treat. The owners are warm, friendly, and obviously love what they are doing. Each visit is a joy.

There are some really good restaurants in the area around Tomar but one is oustanding - O Sabor da Pedra.

It stands comparison with the best in Portugal for quality of the food and wine, efficiency of staff, friendliness of the owners, the glowing ambience and for the superb view, overlooking the delightful Castelo de Bode lake.

My wife and I have lived in this region for more than 3 years. One of our ambitions has been to visit every reputable restaurant around us - we must have been to more than 50 now. But the one we constantly return to is O Sabor da Pedra.

Yes, it is strongly based on traditional Portuguese cuisine - but with top class meats (from beef to goat) and sea and river fish (from cod to bass) with twists of originality livening up accompaniments from rice and potatoes to spinach and beans with interesting and subtle use of herbs and spices. With the sweets menu, just close your eyes and jab the page with your finger - whatever your finger lands on will be excellent.

The wine list is extraordinary with a major emphasis on the hugely under-rated wines of the Tejo region, only some of which can be found in shops in Portugal.

No, it's not cheap - a meal for two with a really good Tejo wine will work out somewhere around 60 - 70 euros. But it's worth every cent!
