Restaurante Cancela Velha

Today for lunch was my first time at Cancela Velha. It was busy but no waiting, seated immediately. Staff was very friendly and helpful. Was with my brother and our Portuguese language teacher. We all ordered the soup (nabissa), breads and olives and cheese appetizers, bacalhau cakes, daily special (pescado and arroz com gelho). Appetizers, soup, and daily fish and rice specials were delicious. I particularly enjoyed the rice. We ordered some traditional deserts, natas de ceu, pudin, bolo traditional. Deserts were delicious especially the natas de ceu. We ordered an apple turnover to take home for our mom. Our server said “warm it slightly and serve with ice cream”, which of course we did. Our mom is 92 and she has tried a lot of apple turnovers in her 9+ decades, and she said “this is the best I have tasted, get more next time please.” Overall an excellent experience and since we are now locals, we will be back again!

A hidden jewel in the middle of Portugal, just half an hour from the Douro River, we found this great restaurant, family owned, spectacular grilling, local cuisine and a very friendly staff.

The grilled Alheira was flawless, perfectly seasoned and deliciously grilled!

And of course the grilled goat was stunning, so good!

The wine list is just unbelievable, Douro selection is insane, 2008 and 2011 still available from many Quintas…

Desserts: my wife still day dreaming with the almond cake!

This is a place to visit, a must, can wait to come again…

Today I went for lunch with my parents at Cancelha Velha and it was an amazing experience. Starting with Sr . Manuel Monteiro he was a fantastic Host with great energy and joyfully. Then he did order the typical Portuguese Sunday roast lunch " Anho " that is a spring lamb and it was outstanding 👌 👏 10 out of 10 , congratulations to the Chefs!
Then the deserts , all homemade , they all look delicious but taste even better .
And at last but not less important , the house red wine , produced in Douro valley was great.
I would recommend Cancela Velha without hesitation.
Definitely will be back in my next visit to Portugal .

Good quality meat and traditional food ... a very quaint location

This is a really nice and good Portuguese restaurant. The service was great, the waiters did speak English very well and asked several times if everything was ok. We especially loved our dessert, the chocolate cake. A nice restaurant with a good atmosphere where you can eat typically Portuguese dishes for a low price. The restaurant is also popular with the locals. So if possible, make a reservation. We were lucky to have a table without a reservation, because we arrived there close to opening hour.

Amazing, fresh & delicious food. The service was of a very high level too. One of the best restaurants I have been to in Portugal!

Restaurante situado no centro de Março de Canaveses, uma referência para quem gosta de ambiente agradável , atendimento irrepreensível, com funcionários 5*, uma lista repleta de boa comida, tradicional portuguesa.Entradas, tem uma grande variedade de entradas, recomendo a alheira grelhada, presunto, salgados variados, tábua de queijos.Carta de vinho com boas seleções de vinhos.
Recomendo, trapo principal, anho de leite no churrasco, vitela no churrasco, com acompanhamento de batata a murro ou frita e legumes. Se gosta de anho assado, em forno de lenha, só por encomenda. A lista de sobremesas e extensão é com doçaria da regiao, para finalizar este repasto café e um bom digestivo
