Pousada Palacete Alijó, Douro

Beautiful old style hotel in a great little town. Staff was super helpful and knowledgeable. Dinner was outstanding - one of the tops in the country. Both starters and mains were as generous as they were delicious! Rabbit, partridge, veal, oh my! Unique, traditional but elevated cuisine. After dinner there was a fantastic free concert in the park next to the hotel. Wow what a great experience.

Really nice and service minded staff, big nice room with an extraordinary bathroom, maintained outdoor area and pool. Most impressed about the price/quality ratio ... easy to get a super nice hotel if you want to pay a lot ... but here you get a 4-dish dinner with exquisite service for €25! The pousada is located where it is ... not much they can do about it ... but if you are on a hiking vacation and it goes through the area of Alijo then it would be a real pity not to pay this Pousada a visit.

Excellent food, service and wine list. Restaurant overlooks the garden and is airy and tables are well spaced from each other.
The hotel sitting room has a fireplace surrounded by comfortable armchairs and sofas.
We could have stayed for hours, we felt so at home.
We drove back for a meal the following day.

This restaurant, ''Restaurante Barão de Forrester'' is an absolute MUST, especially if it's your first time in the Douro region. The restaurant has an extensive menu of traditional dishes that are tasty and rigorously prepared. This spectacular restaurant has something for everyone! I had the spinach risotto with prawns: the dish was to die for! Chef Fátima, cook Cristina and her team are to be congratulated. It was a generous portion.

The flavours were so intense, the textures so perfectly balanced. The waiters, Mr. Firmino and Mr. Gonçalo brought us fantastic appetizers to eat while we waited for our meal.

We felt very welcome, and this definitely counts as one of the best places to celebrate something exceptional in Douro Valley.

Lovely location and excellent service and staff

Really charming place. An old Manor House which belonged to Barao John Joseph Forrester, beautifully refurbished. Surrounded by wineyards and Quintas. and with the nearby harbour of Pinhao which offers plenty of interesting boat trips and classical train excursions alone the Douro river.

One of the best options you will get in this area.

Good and friendly service. Local and delicious food. Fair prices.
