Quinta da Gricha

Wonderful guest house in the stunning Douro Valley. Nicely updated home from 1852 - spacious bedrooms, excellent and friendly staff, nice pool and views that have you reaching for your camera. Morning breakfast is very good - typical continental style spread plus eggs to order. Wine tasting was fun and informative. We had dinner there one night and the wild boar and duck exceeded expectations. It is very remote and we felt like two nights was perfect - enough to relax and still leave wanting more. We did two hikes down to the river and both times were accompanied by one or more of the estate dogs (Kikka pictured).

As to the road - yes the last 4kms or so of road are rough and mostly single lane. Traffic is sparse, however, and if you come upon a vehicle it's likely a local and they will do the backing up if needed. That said, if you are sketched out at all you can take a taxi (like we did) to and from town - it was 30 Euros per way. That was we could relax and I (the usual driver) was able to enjoy the views.

Located high up on the hillside with stunning views over the surrounding vineyards and the river Douro. Though the drive might be slightly stressful, the stay is absolute relaxation. Extremely peaceful and quiet with only 4 rooms. Tasty wine of the winery can be enjoyed in a special tasting or by glass as you please.

We had an absolutely wonderful two nights here. The views of the valley are absolutely stunning! The rooms and grounds are gorgeous. (My only regret was not budgeting more time at the pool!) The included breakfast buffet was fresh and had everything you'd want. Dinner was extra but I highly recommend, because you don't want to miss the sunset. Hosts were fantastic, take a tour while you're there. Honesty bar (wine, port) available 24hrs, as well as fresh fruit and snacks. Honestly, an amazing place. (Note: the drive in is safe, but could be nerve-wracking if you're not used to switchbacks and narrow mountain roads. Personally, I loved it, felt like James Bond...)

The warm welcome, breathtaking views, and serene atmosphere made it truly unforgettable. The attention to small details was evident throughout, and the dinner on the terrace was a highlight - we highly recommend order a dinner during your booking. Since there are only 4 rooms you can expect only a few people around, not overcrowded pool area and have a sunset stroll thru the wineyard. A small snacks and drinks are available free of charge and also fridge full of drinks for extra (very convenient) cost. And they have a superfriendly dogs! A perfect blend of tranquility and luxury.

In one word: EXCELLENT! The details of the renovation of this Quinta are simply perfect: refined yet simple. Cleansiness is total! Views are oh-my-my wowwww! The pool invites you to refresh and relax. The cook is fabulous: there is a set menu every meal, you just need to decide whether to go with it and end up inevitably happy, or go look for some lower level food elsewhere! And the wines are all great! We had a whole strong red wine bottle in 2, plus 2-3 glasses of Porto each.... and next morning we were as fresh as spring flowers! I’d go back to the Douro Valley just to go back to Quinta da Gricha!

The property is beautiful inside and outside. The rooms are big, bright and clean, the views are spectacular. We ate so well and the staff were so friendly and helpful. It's a unique location perfect for escaping reality.

We visited the Quinta for a Porto tasting, the Swedish guy who guided us was super nice and very prepared. The port was super, esp the tawny, not too sweat, I personally preferred it to some Graham’s we drunk the day before in Porto. We even tried a White and Red table wine. They were both very good. We had the chance to enter the old building, it has been recently refurbished and it is amazing (they have 4 rooms).

Truly special place located right in the top of the vineyards. The views from this place (rooms, balcony, pool) are just something truly special and something I could not picture in my dreams. Everything in Villa Grincha was perfect - from the wonderful knowledgeable people working there to the comfortable rooms (the pillow and bed felt like sleeping on a cloud) to the wonderful food and drinks. The port tasting and pairing is a must when you visit as you will go on an unforgettable journey to tastes one could never have imagined. I really hope to come back one day.

Worth the drive to stay here. Sara was a lovely host and service was amazing. Not to mention the views! We stayed in the Alfazema room with views of the river from two windows (plus a third window in the WC).

Absolutely exquisite landscape! The farm itself is beautifully decorated, well kept gardens, lovely and inviting pool to enjoy sundowners 😉staff very friendly and welcoming.

The kind of place where you look up return flights while you’re still there. Quinta da gricha is an oasis from the hectic pace of life. It is elegantly decorated and features a pool that is the stuff of landscaping dreams. Note, it is a drive from Pinhao, but that is also part of the appeal.

If there is a heaven I hope it's like Quinta da Gricha. The room overlooking the Douro and exceptional food and wine. I definitely hope to come back and would highly recommend for everyone.
