The Castle of Porto de Mós is built on the top hill of the town.

At the time of the Christian Reconquest of the Iberian Peninsula Porto de Mós became a strategic point in the defense of Leiria and Coimbra. With the encouragement of settlement under the reign of D. Sancho I the town prospered, and its defense received important improvement works. The castle's defensive structure was severely damaged by the 1755 earthquake and, again, by the 1909 earthquake.

Porto de Mós Castle has been classified as a National Monument since 1910.

I was pleasantly surprised by this castle! The castle is beautifully renovated and tickets are affordable. A nice end of the day activity if you're passing by. It's a quick visit but offers great views.

Located at the heart of Porto de Mos, this beautiful castle oversees the valley. If you walk from downtown it should take you about 15 minutes to reach the top. The castle is open until 18h30 and the ticket price is quite affordable, less than €2 per adult. The castle has been partially restored but the building gives you a good idea of how magnificent the place was. Great place to make pictures

Beautiful looking castle with two unique turret tops made of green ceramic tiles. Some parts on the back are destroyed due to the 1755 earthquake. Inside there are a couple of antique war gear. Entry fee is really low and parking is easy. Great views over the city.

Who doesn’t like castles? The Porto de Mós castle is a nicely restored castle in the middle of town, with a number of panels recounting the history of the battle of Aljubarrota on its courtyard. They have cultural events in there too. Cheap admission price (I think we paid 1,50 € per person). Worth a visit.

Lovely little castle, carefully reconstructed to showcase how it looked in former times. Beautiful views from the top, with all sorts of small rooms and quaint passages. Very cheap (cash only), with some archaeological exhibits, and excellent accessibility (elevators, ramps and lifts throughout). Only takes about half an hour.

Must visit. This restored castle has beautiful views of the surrounding countryside and the village of Porto de Mós. Try to see Ermida de Santo António - São Pedro from the Castle and guess how many steps has the staircase to the top.

Cute Castle - great view - pet friendly
Nicely refurbished castle, worth visiting if you're around. There's a photography exhibition, showing beautiful landscaping of Serra dos Candeeiros. Entrance costs 1,60€, or less if you have discount.. The souvenir shop is nice, we bought books and other gifts at reasonable prices. It is accessible for those with reduced mobility and they allow pets! We came in with our dog 🐾!

The size and location of the castle makes the visit easy to plan on your way from A to B. Also, it's an interesting place, not very touristic and with a nice old cemetery.
