For appetizers, try the octopus capaccio and the mackerel in oil over oil. For dinner, try the tiger prawns and black pork medallions.

For dessert have a Tawny port with the chocolate cake and cheesecake.

I’ve been to Algarve a couple of times now and am always amazed by the beauty of the country and the friendliness of the people. The one thing I’m typically not impressed by are restaurants, which often seem to cater to a taste that’s not mine. A combination of fresh ingredients, traditional but sophisticated dishes, and great service can be hard to come by, especially in combination.

Good news, however: Porches Velho is the best restaurant in the area! Others have commented on how the location is charming but unsuspecting: while you don’t see much from the outside, there are very charming places inside and outside.

The food is fresh, typical and traditional, never boring and always strong on quality: perfectly grilled shrimp with a super-tasty garlic and chili sauce; octopus with sweet potatoes that are too good; a lamb shank with roast aromas, rosmary, and the most tender meat. For desert, we had wonderful cakes - all combined with wine that isn’t expensive but just very, very good.

I could go on when all I‘d like to do is cone back: it’s a fantastic restaurant, highly recommended!

We had such a great dining experience at Porches Velho. Each dish that we ordered was so fresh and delicious. We had the shrimp cocktail, grilled prawns, steak, fish of the day, and octopus. All so perfectly prepared. The service also was top notch. The ambiance was amazing in this old wine house with a cozy fireplace and such character!
This was by far our best dining experience and favourite restaurant in the Algarve!

Great food : octopus and fish were very tasty and well cooked. The team is very welcoming and prices are reasonable (65€ for 2 starters. 2 fish, 1/2 bottle with wine, one dessert). Strongly recommended if you are around

Our new favourite restaurant in the Algarve! This restaurant is excellent, a little pricey compared to other Portuguese restaurants, but the service, quality of the food and the place itself justifies it. Beautiful food! We can't wait to go back!

One of our favourite family run restaurants, where fish is fresh, steak is matured, wine is aged and service is perfect. Armandio and his team will do everything to make your evening special. Save room for homemade dessert. Or take it home for breakfast the next day!
Ah, almost forgot - outside terrace is the best place to sit on warm summer evening.

Just like O Leao - they and you don't need another 5* to suggest this place is also a great place to eat. Velho and O Leao (along with Rolho wine bar) in Porches are so good that I cannot not write to support and thank them again for wonderful food, drink and hospitality especially in this difficult time for tourism. They're just such nice people doing a great job that I felt I had to write something.

Right opposite O Leao - Porches is a more affordable, more home cooked style of food. Hearty portion sizes and quick service are just a couple of pluses for the restaurant - again - order anything on the menu and you won't be disappointed in terms of quality, quantity and flavour but DO save room for Mrs Candeias amazing homemade traditional desserts (if you don't it's ok - just go again!)

Definitely try to make the time and trip to visit Porches and if you visit here, Rolho or O Leao you will not be disappointed! In fact as I think about it - for its size - Porches probably has the best concentration of fantastic food and wine places in the Algarve....

Amazing place. John dory with orange sauce was increduble. Mussels were delicuous and staff was amazing. Highly reccomend coming here. We will be back!
