Having the Pousada perched on the hilltop is a fantastic point to explore this place.

The village is enclosed by 13th-century defensive walls and crowned by a well-preserved castle, providing a glimpse into Portugal's rich history. Marvão offers visitors a unique and charming atmosphere, with narrow streets lined by white-washed houses adorned with colorful trim.

For me as a pet traveller I appreciate that the Pousada is pet friendly. This is one of the main reasons I travel in the Pestana network.

It would have been nice to have a room with a view of the valley but they only have one pet friendly room in the hotel that is tucked away. I hope this will change in future as it is a bit disappointing to pay extra for a room and sign disclosures for your pet and then still be relegated to a room with no view even if you wanted one. I thought my Elite plus status would have afforded me a room bump but this didn’t happen despite the hotel being empty.

When I was there I basically had the place to myself which was great but it did mean that there was no dinner (there were a few places open in town) and breakfast was cut back as no hot food is provided for. I think the server was mortified that I was using my pancake as a coaster for my coffee because it was rock solid but I guess this is the problem when you have to cut back on service during quiet times. I would suggest a set menu that you offer guests and they choose a few items and then it gets prepared. Since the kitchen is not busy it should be easy to prepare a select few items on request. I fully appreciate that you need to reduce service to prevent waste, however from the bread heavy spread that was offered a lot of it will just go to waste because people can’t eat that much and also people are fussy so a lot of it will go untouched.

The staff are super friendly and attentive.

I would return for another stay in this magical town on condition that my room affords me that magical view.

Such a beautiful place full of history. The view is breath taking. Tricky drive through the town as road is cobble stone and inclines with tight turns. Well worth it though as you can see for miles to Spain and surrounding Portugal country side.

The Pousada has a wonderful view of the city. The atmosphere is relaxing. Special thanks to Daniel the front desk staff that helped straighten out our reservation with exceptional professionalism.

Pousada Marvao has a spectacular view from its perch on the hillside of Marvao. The common areas take great advantage of the view. We arrived to find our tour company had not properly reserved our room. Daniel at the front desk spent nearly an hour straightening things out. Highly professional. We are very happy with our room.

On the basis of a recommendation in the Guardian we visited Marvão on our way back from Lisbon. We stopped for two nights, perfect for a serious hike during the day of our stay and a stroll around the fortress of Marvão. The Pousada has VERY friendly staff. a wonderful view from the restaurant at breakfast and dinner and a relaxing area to sit and read and enjoy the view and the bar. A very good experience. Coming by car along the very narrow mediaeval streets is a challenge that can be overcome (we did). The room decorations are quaint and that's all right.

Got to pousada marvao by accident, spent two nights with my wife and three kids.
Arrived at night after a long drive from madrid, the host (paulinia) was so nice, helped with the bags, taking care of all our needs, smiling all the time. The room is clean and tidy. Breakfast was good. I would definitely recommend this hotel.

We spend one night in the hotel. The room was very comfortable and we appreciated the air conditioning. We had dinner and breakfast at the hotel. The dinner was excellent, with a good choice of food. The olives, cheese and oil presented first were very good, the starters and main courses were delicious. The staff were very knowledge about the food and wine and were very atte time and helpful.

The breakfast was also excellent with a vast choice of meats, cheeses, fruit, and cakes and pastries. There was also hot food available.

Highly recommended.

I only visited the restaurant for lunch. I was there with my wife and 6 month old baby.

The hotel is placed in a nice little town with a tremendous view. You can actually see Spain from there. Most tables are at a window so you can enjoy the view while eating.

Eating there with a baby was no problem - we got a baby chair and the waiter Alexandro assisted to fulfill the needs of our little one.

Service was great too. Good suggestions what to eat and always helpful. Also Got some nice tips for daily activities.

The most important thing food: we had stock fish and mixed grilled meat. Both was amazing. As dessert mouse au chocolate by recommendation of our waiter.

We did not stay at the Hotel but we did have dinner at their restaurant. Excellent dinners served by a friendly and welcoming staff. And the price was very reasonable. Highly recommended!

Nice hotel. Lovely staff. Phenomenal location. If you drive to the hotel. Be warned the streets inside the castle walls are mediaeval and just wide enough for a car. It is possible to park close to it. But getting there is an experience. Overall getting and being here is wonderful.

Very unique place atop an 850 mts mountain with remains of ancient castle to visit within walking distance. Note: this is not a place for people with mobility issues! Steep climb to the hotel and to visit the mountaintop village

The Marvao Pousada/Castle is on a mountain ridge high above the rest of the world. The view is enchanting and will never be forgotten!
