And you can have an incredible meal at 1810 restaurant for 10 euros (year 2023) where you can eat everything!

one of the most imposing fortresses in Portugal that played a critical role in defining the Portugal of today. It is a pity that more efforts are not made to publicize it and invest in tourism.

Amazing place stuffed full of history. We visited during a Catholic festival so streets were beautifully decorated with flowers and greenery.

Its a huge medieval village i visited here and the temperature is almost 40° 🥵 luckily you can drive on it… i will surely visit it again to analyse more of this historical place.

Fabulous place, allow half a day. Great cafes in the centre.

It's a really interesting place to visit. It's a huge military architecture to defense from the French army.

If you are interested in military architecture it is fantastic. The village is very small and quite.
Quite a few interesting houses. Unfortunately you dont have many places to have a meal than snacks. The hotel Posada located infront of the walls unfortunately is closed.

No need to buy tickets.
I would reccomend where you ask if needed buying tickets in advance you add the option of free visit

Nice fortified town.

A beautiful place. A small part in the history of Portugal's defensive military architecture. The green grass cloak, cloud formations and ambient light, so characteristic in this time of year (November), adds an idyllic look to the whole place and surrounding landscape.

This place is a mandatory visit for anyone interested in military history. Having already visited Elvas and its grandeous mountain fortresses, I was not expecting Almeida to be so impressive. Its sheer size makes you wonder about the amount of manual labor required to raise such monstrous walls around the village. Walking on top of the large mounds you can almost like a guard on patrol. There's no photo that will ever do justice to this wonderful construction.

Wondeful town. A fortification surrounding a quaint town, holding lovely gems of small shops, restaurants etc.

People are friendly, and helpful.

The beautiful village fort of Almeida, located in a high point with previlege views from de surroundings. Sunrise and sunset are the best moments to feel Almeida. ❤

Quaint Town steeped in so much Napoleonic history.

The old castle ruins within the fortress. You can clearly see the dramatic effect of the explosion that destroyed it.
