O Abocanhado

Great find in Gerês to have dinner. The view is amazing, the path there can take a while and be bit tricky but it's very worth it. We had the vegetarian option and it was delicious.

A great find in the beautiful Geres region and the little stone village of Brufe. Lovely setting with amazing views. Excellent food with generous portions and outstanding service.

We could not wish for a better view! When we got there, the outside door was closed so we thought they were closed that day (although the sign said they are open everyday). So I called them and with 3 out of 10 Portuguese words that I know of, I asked them if they were open, and the lady confirmed they were (cue the happy song)!
We sat down under the tree, and we were already happy. We got the shrimps to start with and there is a high chance this will be my starter as well as entree the next time... It was very unique, I really liked the sweet sauce that comes with it (I thought it was a pepper jam). We ordered the 2 fish dishes in the menu for the main course, they were OK. I had a hard time with the bones. However, the potatoes that came with it were surprisingly tasty. We also ordered the pear with port as dessert and it was delicious, a great option for a light dessert.When we were there, there were 2 other tables of tourists besides us, none of us could speak Portuguese but we all got by. The menu was in English, which was very helpful.

At an amazing location, in the old village of Brufe, located on the side of the mountain with an outstanding view ( when it is not foggy).
Nice dishes, rather promotional in size compared to the regular oversized portions in Portuguese restaurants.

O Abocanhado is a wonderfully designed place. The interior is amazing from the chairs to the fire place. We decided to visit this restaurant on a rainy and foggy winter day which probably defeats the purpose, but I must say it has its charm, it feels very mystical. The food was simple but very tasty. We had the blood sausage with apple sauce which was very pleasant and then we had the grilled sirloin also very tasty. The service is just amazing, old school super professional which is so hard to find these days. Overall a great experience that I’m sure would have been even better if it was a sunny and warm day. Thank you!

An outstanding view. Romantic atmosphere. Good food and great wine. If you're visiting Peneda Geres, and you looking for a special dinner place. This is the place. Better arrive before sunset to see the view.

Stunning location, delicious and varied menu, excellent wine list. Delightful and friendly hosts. Beautifully designed and furnished rooms too. A sophisticated oasis. We will be back!

Restaurant with a view to the valleys until your eyes can see. Very friendly owners that love their dogs, all rescue and living all in liberty. So if you see dogs running around the restaurante it's OK. Very friendly. Very professional place, food is always good, very balanced between what you pay and what you get at the table. Does it worth the trip? Yesss, for sure! Even if you just want to have a drink and see the sunset. 🌅

It's easy to drive by this restaurant without ever seeing it. The curve in the road has a gravel parking lot that appears to be for a small grassy patch and a view. Look more closely and you'll see it's the roof of the restaurant, complete with sky lights and vents in that grass.

Make your way down the stairs to the right and the restaurant is very apparent (or a gravel walk to the left on the other side of the trees). The deck is gorgeous, the staff is courteous, and the food is delicious. We skipped the hors d'oeuvres in favor of the roasted fruit and have no regrets. Everything was incredible and the view was to die for. Cannot recommend enough!

As an added bonus, wild ponies and neighborhood dogs were playing nearby.

We had learned of O Abocanhado and were very happy they made room for our group of four since it was already 3:00 when we walked in the door. The day was a bit over cast but the view was wonderful anyway! The food was delicious and the service spot on.

Beautifully located on top of the mountain overlooking the hills and valley. Very friendly service and delicious food (bacalhau á lagareiro) in very comfortable surroundings. Strongly recommended.

Spectacular view plus a steak to melt in your mouth, nice selection of regional wines.
No swimming pool, but we didn't need it anyway 😆😋

Everything including starters, main dish, desert, wine, service and atmosphere were excellent.
