Waris Shah's tomb: A place for the lovers
Waris Shah and his tomb are for those who want to be enchanted, not awed.
While Waris Shah did indeed spend much of his life in the tiny village of Malka Hans, 12 kilometres north of Pakpattan, he was in fact laid to rest in his hometown of Jandiala Sher Khan, 14km from Sheikhupura.
The resting place of Waris Shah is another red brick construction, a humble squat prism symbolically punctured by five porticoes on each wall. The porticoes are divided by pillars decorated with blue and white painted tiles. The inner sanctum is an octagonal room containing the grave, topped by a flat white dome.

Although the tomb is subtle and symbolic, I can't help but express my slight disappointment: the structure did not dazzle me like those of many of the other great Sufi poets, nor did it evoke the same lonely ruminations of the Heer Ranjha tomb in Jhang.

Perhaps it's the modernity which failed to impress me; instead of a time-honoured structure intriguing in its difference, this tomb was completed in 1978, in an era where the architecture wasn't that different to my own.

I was surrounded by lovers; lovers of the poetry, lovers of the divine. Suddenly the vast courtyard felt a whole lot closer — it made sense.

12Dec2020: It was a chilly night of December. I had left Karachi for visiting 3rd Annual Guava Festival at Sharaqpur on 11-Dec-2020 with Awam Express. After visiting Changa Manga Forest in Kasur, this was my 2nd stop in Sheikhupura. Here first I visited the Hiran Minar and then here. The shared HiAce minibus from Jamber stop to Lahore Thokar Niaz Baig bus stiation. From here, took another 16 seater HiAce that took us to Batti Chowk, Shiekhupura via Motorway. From here took private rickshaw for Hiran Minar and Waris Shah tomb. Unfortunately due to winter they close around 7 p.m. While I reached around 9 p.m. But they Administrator let me in when he learned that I had come from Karachi. I offered my Maghrib and Isha prayers as well and prayed for the departed souls. Took some quick pictures and then was back to Jandiala Sher Khan, where spent the night with a local family.
Thanks to BB Health Tours, Karachi.

It is one of the very famous Sufi Shrines of Indo Pak. Need some more effort for tourists guide and improvements in road infrastructure.
Road leading from Hafiz Abad is not worth travelling.
However, this place encompasses its own sentimental aroma despite poor arrangements.
Few volunteers locals who recite heer are real value addition

Peer waris shah was the native of jandiala sher khan of Sheikhupura. He was a sufi poet and writer of heer ranjha a famous story of punjabi language in his own unique way.. In which he shows the aspect of islam and gave us a lesson. I suggeat you to if you visit there than go to library behind the tomb and study his books, there is also librarian who will tell you autobiography of baba g. The tomb need authorities attention. You will see the graves of his companion back side of the tomb under the tress. It is very interesting that sikhs and Muslim both accept him, their mentor.. May his soul rest in peace..

It is located in Jandiala Sher Khan, a village of Sheikhupura, Province Punjab, Pakistan.

Peer waris Shah was a Sufi saint and poet. His poetry is famous all over the world. He wrote his poetry in Punjabi language. "Heer Ranjha" is his famous work.

I visited his shrine in June' 2019 for the first time with my beloved friend Rana Nasir Khan and then in 2020 with Mian Mohsin bhai, the friend with me in these pictures.

There were shops of fastfood and souvenir outside the shrine. Place was very calm and quiet. It was less crowded when I visited.

Every year on 23rd, 24th, and 25th September, fair is held here. People from different parts of the country visit the fair.
