In the small town of Sehwan is the Sufi Shrine of Shahbaz Qalandar. Absolutely crowded for an evening concert. Sufism is a mystical body of Islam associated with deep spirituality, purification and ritualism. Also called Islamic mysticism people gather to whirl around and chant to hypnotic drum beats.

Lal Shabaz Qalandar, although from Maiwand in the Afghanistan, whose family came from Baghdad, settled in Sindh and helped many people in converting to Islam and was revered by the local Sindhi population. Lal Shabaz Qalandar had also been reputed for performing many miracles and was seen as a very holy figure in Sindh

The 19th century spiritual Sufi nasheed Dama Dam Mast Qalandar is dedicated to Lal Shahbaz Qalandar and is widely popular in Pakistan.

i hope these lines touch your heart
Sehwan can be the perfect weekend getaway for a Karachi Walla especially in winters. Or let’s just say one should go there only in winters; I can say that because I went in the summers and it was too hot.

The road from Hyderabad is well maintained and traffic seems to be well in order. The fields of sunflowers by the highway make the route even more scenic. but some time street dogs are hit your car , be carefully, dont over-speeding
One eventually decides to think about going back but not before saying their prayers at the shrine. You have to compete with an ever present crowd to get your chance, making your way through people saying prayers in reverence, some crying some smoking , all the evil and good you see at a time now it's depend on you chose right or wrong some people putting their head on the railing. Lal Shahbaz still gives them hope irrespective of their creed, caste or gender. A sense of veneration and gratitude strikes you.

Crowded but peaceful. The shrine attracts thousands of visitors daily and even then everything keeps on going like clockwork. Thanks to the improved roads, the journey is now reduced too and it takes less time then it used to take back in the day.

28Feb2021: Visited for the second time with old school friends. First visit was about 35 years ago.
This spiritually spellbinding shrine is though peaceful from inside but the area from Entrance to Sehwan town and till the main entrance to the mausoleum hall is clear picture of utter neglect and indiscipline by Sindh local authorities. The roads leading to the shrine are extremely narrow and dilapidated with ugly Rickshaws blocking the route. There are no signboards leading to the shrine. Nasty beggars flood the streets and the shrine.
Corruption prevails inside the shrine and you are urged to leave donations in the open area. I placed my donation inside the designated boxes despite insistence by the official Khadim.
We offered Namaz e Zuhr (qasr) bajamaat at the mosque inside the shrine. The Imam at the mosque was extremely courteous and generous. Due to the presence of 2 Ulema from Karachi with us, we were given special protocol and visited the inside area of the shrine. The Imam of mosque offered us tea with refreshments and briefed about the historical background. The of Lal Shahbaz Qalandar is Shah Husain and is either son or grandson of Habib Mujarrab. He is 7th generation son of Imam Jafer e Sadiq AS (the great grandson of the holy Prophet SAWW).
Uthman was probably his maternal grandfather.
The shrine is managed by the Auqaf Department.
STDC has a resort in Sehwan.
Annual Urs is celebrated from 18 to 20 Shabaan (Islamic month). This year probably from 01st April, 2021.

Shrine is beautiful with breathtaking decoration and setup. People form all over the country visit to pay respect and for spiritual healing.
The area outside is very crowded and hostile.
