Gabriela Carino Silang Monument

Gabriela Silang Monument or more popularly known as the " Joan of Arc" of the Ilocos, led the Ilocanos resistance against the Spaniards in 1763, after her husband Diego Silang was murdered on May 28, 1763. Her monument stands beside the Abra Pasalubong Center and before entering the Tangadan tunnel to remind every one of the gallant stand and the ideals she and her husband fought and died for. There is also a Gabriela Silang Fine Arts Gallery at the town of Tayum just after Bangued.

This is a fitting tribute to heroine Josefa Gabriela Carino Silang who also traces her roots in the province of Abra. Her Carino Family ancestral home where she sought refuge after the death of her husband Diego during the Ilocos Revolt is in the town of Tayum. It is located right before the Tangadan Tunnel, across the Abra Pasalubong Center.

One of the two statues dedicated to the bad-ass heroine of Ilocos - Gabriela Silang (the other one is in Santa, her home town).
She continued the fight her husband started, until she was captured by the Spaniards on August 24, 1763, and was later hanged in Vigan.
You wont missed this landmark since it is located at the entrance of the tunnel.
