Tangadan Tunnel: A Brief Detour into Engineering Marvels

Nestled near the Pasalubong store, the Tangadan Tunnel beckons travelers to take a brief detour into the realm of engineering marvels. 🚗🌉

The tunnel, a testament to meticulous design, offers more than just a passage—it's a journey through concrete arches and dimly lit corridors that add a touch of intrigue to the road less traveled.

Conveniently situated near the Pasalubong store, it becomes an impromptu stop for those eager to explore a bit of architectural ingenuity. The quick sidetrip unveils a snippet of the region's engineering prowess, creating a juxtaposition between the modernity of the tunnel and the natural beauty that surrounds it.

For practical travelers, the presence of a CR (Comfort Room) brings a touch of convenience to the journey. It's a thoughtful inclusion that caters to the needs of those passing through, providing a momentary respite before continuing their adventure.

So, if you find yourself on the road near the Pasalubong store, consider veering off for a brief encounter with the Tangadan Tunnel. It's a fleeting yet fascinating interlude where engineering meets nature, leaving you with a taste of the unexpected. 🌉🛣 #TangadanTunnel #EngineeringMarvel #RoadsideDiscovery #TravelConvenience #Abramazing

Just a short tunnel, but the Garbiela Silang park nearby is a good place to contemplate this brave woman and her role in the Philippine Revolution.

Located in Brgy. Tangadan, San Quintin, the 40 meter tunnel was built in 1934 and took two years to complete. The Allied forces tried to destroy the tunnel twice to impede the advancing Japanese soldiers during World War II but it did not collapse. Also known as “usukan” the tunnel is a popular landmark of the province.

This is a favorite photo op spot of many tourist for this seperates the province of Abra and Ilocos Sur.

It is called the entrance to Abra. It used to the only way to access the province of abra. Maybe the first ever tunnel built in the entire Philippines. Endures war and rehabilitated in to what it looks like now. It can also be considered a tourist spot of abra. Few walks away on the entrance, there's a store that sell souvenir items and some products of abra.

This is where we bought our pasalubong. I love Inladit, the snacks made in Abra. My husband loves the chili alamang and the chili chicken oil.

Mandatory stop-over for first time visiting Abra. Located at the entrance is the statue of heroine Gabriela Silang, at the other side is the local tourism office.

Now that there's a Pasalubong Center, it's the best place to stop and have breakfast after a long bike ride. There's also stairs going to the top of the tunnel. The Pasalubong Center is bike friendly.

There's now a quick stop to the right of this picture, just before the tunnel, where you have ample parking space, buy some souvenirs, have some snacks, use clean toilets, stretch your legs for a bit and take pictures by the tunnel. Locals usually honk their horns while tourists, especially ones aboard pick-ups and open bed trucks, scream and shout while passing through the tunnel for what some say as respect to the spirits.

I love the clean and fresh surroundings, nearby tunnel is the Gabriela Silang monument dedicated to honor her heroic deed by leading thousand men in fighting the Spanish colonisers .It also serves as a reminder to us Filipinos to value our own culture ,heritage and freedom. There is also a souvenir shop that sells locally made items.

Marks the entrance to the province of Abra and Cordillera Administrative Region from Ilocos Sur. Right before it is the Gabriela Silang monument and park.
