This place is absolutely amazing! If you want to see wildlife, then this is the spot. It's a bit tricky to find but every local knows where it is so just ask around. They provide free rides back into town and they have many options for tours into the jungle. I had an amazing time here.

I didn’t stay at the hotel, just visited the animals for a couple of hours. Parrots/parakeets lived there but roamed freely and would interact with you when you have them cheese. Wild hawks would visit when the staff out out little bits of meat. Monkeys came from kilometres away in the jungle when the staff yelled out “monkey” as loud as they could to let them know to come get bananas. Felt like a non-exploitative way to interact with a few local animals. Make sure to stay calm because the parrots will challenge you (nip at your heels) if they sense fear, and the monkeys may fight a bit for the banana in your hand, but nothing too big to worry about, still very fun!

Fray is an excellent host, also his nephew all the time ready to help and give you some advice. Very nice views of the river, and amazing how the wild animals come everyday there.

This has been the best hostel stay of my life! The rooms are basic but comfortable, there is soo much wildlife that comes to the hostel: 4 different types of monkeys, beautiful parrots, turtles and also the pet dogs and cats are so much fun! There was also a matamata (crazy looking turtle) and a baby caiman! The owners are just AMAZING, brother and sisters who have the biggest heart and fed us with local fruits, coffee and so much experience. Don't hesitate and stay here, you will never forget!!

Really nice hostel!
Fray is extremely nice and welcoming, as well as the rest of the staff
The rooms are basic, but if you got that far in the middle of nowhere it shouldn't be a problem.
There is a kitchen that you can use.
They propose the same tours as everyone in Puerto Nariño (Lago Tarapoto, Isla de Cacao...) at a really good price. Feliz is really nice and a good guide.
And of course, lots of amazingly cute animals you can watch, feed, and even cuddle when they want.

This is the best place you can stay in the Amazon.
A rustic yet comfortable accommodation surrounded by nature.
Run by attentive and kind people that cares for its guests.
The animals there are adorable and you can take any tour from here to the jungle.

My favorite place in the entire world! Seriously, it is just amazing. The owner is super funny and nice. The place is in an amazing setting next to the jungle. Many animals come to visit. The accomodation is basic, but there is everything you need. Absolutely loved it.

My stay here was amazing. Eventhough I could sadly only stay for one night, the owner took the time to show me around the location to see all the animals and wildlife and also had a Kayak for free use to paddle around on the Amazonas.
All in all thr owner is very welcoming and made the stay very comfortable and enjoyable.

Amazing in EVERY. SINGLE. WAY. The people, location, plants and animals. Elena is the hostess w the mostess. Basic amenities - basic kitchen and wet shower.. the shower is just a pipe in the wall. But who cares, you’re in the Amazon! We got picked up at the port and taken to the Cabañas without having to arrange it, such a nice surprise. Very inexpensive accommodation and the activities/tours were great and cheapest you’ll find. Busy with other traveling people, mostly European. Would recommend this location to ANYONE who doesn’t have 3 roller suitcases and needs air conditioning.

About Caballococha
Town in Peru

Caballococha is a town in the Loreto Region in northeastern Peru, located on the Amazon river and right across the river from Colombia. It is the capital of both Mariscal Ramón Castilla Province and Ramón Castilla District. As of 1993, it had a population of 4,028. The name of the town is a combination of Spanish and Quechua, meaning "Horse Lake", a nearby body of water. It is a poor town and people live by farming, trading, and fishing. Television has arrived as has the internet and there is even an internet cafe in the market square. Other than some motorcycle/taxis, there are only one or two vehicles in town. There is an airport under construction, but it is difficult to imagine it will see much use. The town saw itself participating in the Leticia Incident, an event which led to war between Peru and Colombia in 1932. source
