This was hands down the best culinary experience I've ever had. I have lived in Peru before and believe me the food was very authentic yet professionally cooked to perfection. We had the Ceviche de trucha and the Ají de Gallina served with a lovely mint and lime refresco. The location is a slightly harder to find, but the taxi's know where it is. It's so worth it, even if you're not a food snob. I took my wife and in-laws who had never tried ceviche and they absolutely loved it and we even made it when we got home with the help of the amazing chefs.

We had lunch here during our tour of sacred valley. It was so perfect, they had great music playing and cute outside backyard seating, it felt so much nicer than eating at some random tourist spot. The food was delicious, the chef clearly knew what he was doing and we both we very happy and full. We got the key lime pie that was delicious! This place exceeded our expectations. Would highly recommend at anyone passing through.

Wow - what a great culinary experience! Diego and Anilu were in the restaurant industry in Lima, but decided to move to rural Urubamba to raise a family. Now, they serve breakfast and lunch, at their restaurant, then close to do a cooking class in the evening. Both just wonderful people. Anilu took us through the market, buying all the unique fruits that we don't have in North America. Then Diego (who is clearly a world class chef) teaches a great meal of local trout ceviche and lomo saltado. All in the pleasant courtyard of their restaurant/home while the neighborhood kids played nearby. Just a wonderful part of our trip.

We took a cooking class here and cannot rate it high enough! From the market experience with Ana Lou to the cooking lesson with Diego, it was beyond anything we expected. Amazing time with great people, wonderful Peruvian food education and out of this world food! We will be repeat customers when we come back!

Pakakuna: A Culinary Gem in Urubamba

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Pakakuna, a charming family-owned Peruvian restaurant nestled in the heart of Urubamba, and I must say that it was an absolutely delightful experience from start to finish.

From the moment I walked in, I was warmly welcomed by the friendly staff who exuded genuine hospitality. It's evident that this restaurant is not just a business; it's a labor of love for the family who runs it. Their warm and inviting atmosphere made me feel like I was dining in the home of a dear friend.

Now, let's talk about the food – oh, the food! Pakakuna offers a mouthwatering array of traditional Peruvian dishes that are a true testament to the rich culinary heritage of the country. Every dish I tried was a masterpiece of flavor and presentation. The attention to detail in their cooking is nothing short of extraordinary. The ceviche was a fresh and zesty burst of citrus, and the lomo saltado was a tantalizing combination of tender beef and perfectly cooked vegetables. And don't even get me started on their empanadas – they were simply divine.

One standout aspect of Pakakuna is their commitment to using locally sourced, high-quality ingredients. This not only ensures the freshness of their dishes but also supports the local community – a commendable and responsible approach to dining.

The service was impeccable throughout my visit. The staff were attentive without being intrusive, and they were more than happy to share their knowledge of the dishes and offer recommendations. They truly went above and beyond to ensure that every aspect of my dining experience was enjoyable.

To top it all off, the prices at Pakakuna are incredibly reasonable for the level of quality and service you receive. It's a testament to their dedication to providing an authentic Peruvian dining experience accessible to everyone.

Whether you're a local looking for a fantastic meal or a visitor exploring the culinary treasures of Urubamba, Pakakuna is a must-visit. This family-owned gem has captured my heart, and I can't wait to return to savor more of their incredible dishes. Thank you, Pakakuna, for a memorable dining experience that exceeded all expectations!

We enjoyed pizza and music on Friday night then returned to do a cooking class. The market tour was very informative. Anilu is a warm and friendly person that takes much care to ensure you feel welcome.
Diego is a masterful chef! He was patient with our minimal Spanish language. His food is made with much attention to preserving the flavors and freshness of the food. I love that we left with the understanding of preparing these dishes and can return home to share the rich flavors of Peru with our friends and family.
Highly recommend!!

I had the cooking class last night and my friends tasted the plates. Diego works magically by fusing local and Asian cuisine. Anilu was the soul of the party! I love you guys! Hands down the best food in the whole area.

Very good food and friendly staff. The burgers are specially delicious. I took 3 picky eaters (kids) there, they finished everything on their plate and asked for more!!!
Just don't show up super hungry, food can take about 45min to come out of the kitchen

Had a lovely cooking class here. You can tell that the chef has a genuine passion for cuisine. The quality of beef in the lomo saltado is the best we tasted in the sacred valley (and we ate this almost every day for weeks). I really enjoyed my time here, and wish we knew about this place earlier.

If staying at the Belmond Rio Sagrado nearby, definitely come here to eat. It’s better than the in-house restaurant (to be fair, I last dined at the Belmond Rio Sagrado 4 years ago)

The food at Pakakuna is excellent. We have been a few times and have tried a variety of their dishes. Not one has been a disappointment, they have all been super. The burgers, pepper steak with gnocchi and ceviche are are favourites. Highly recommended.

The food is excellent. It definitely ranks with the best on the culinary scene in my city (Oakland in the house). It was way above my expectations in quality, taste and presentation. They put thought and love in the food and it really makes a difference.

I spent new year’s eve here and I have to say, I wouldn’t have wanted to spend it any other way. From the moment I walked in I was amazed by the beauty of the place, from the art on the wall to the way that every table was different, everything was so beautiful. The owners, who were so amazing and kind, gave us a tour of their backyard garden where they grow all of their herbs and vegetables. Then we went inside for our cooking class. The owners showed us how to make this cool potato thing and it was so cool to get to do that and eat it afterwards and we even got to wear fancy aprons. Then we were given a fancy demonstration of how to make lomo saltado and I have to say the way that the owner presented it was so amazing and everybody was in awe. After the demonstration we had dinner which consisted of the delicious lomo saltado from the presentation and for dessert we had delicious Peruvian chocolate cake, which really was the best chocolate cake I had during my entire time eating chocolate cake in Peru. And also, definitely check out the bathroom, theres this cool wall made out of glass bottles, it’s perfect for selfies.
