Sun Gate

Totally cool bucket list ancient mystery stuff... Pretty sure this came from Puma Punku (sun gate). There are several of those megalithic ish stones laying around here at Tiwanaku that look just like the ones at Puma Punku...1.5 hour drive from La Paz through the SH of El alto...but its worth it if your already in La Paz...

A must see place of wonder during a trip to Bolivia. This place will leave an impression on you. It doesn’t feel crowded or touristy and you can feel the age and history of the place. It’s quiet here, and that is probably the very best part.

Amazing piece of artwork that is the highlight of Tiwanaku. Created thousands of years ago it is unique and seems to be an entrance gate to the courtyard. It was moved to this location later and stands idle now in the middle of the courtyard.

The Tihawanako temple belongs to the culture of Bolivia located in La Paz-Bolivia that also identifies the Aymaras (culture of Bolivian origin), its archeology dates between 15,000 years to 17,000 years BC together with the city of Pumapunko. Located in Bolivia, in the past they integrated Peru but only this Tihawanko civilization belongs to Bolivia, the same culture that extended in the Andes of South America to Peru, Tihawanako who were the Inca ancestors of the Pukina language.

Fascinating archeological site dating back thousands of years. Recommend taking a guide although it’s unfortunate they don’t offer any English guides.

The history of this place is intriguing and very old, however a lot more needs excavating and many theories.

To be honest ist a bit smaller than I had thought. But truly unique and impressive.

A must see place when you are in La Paz. It is not the richiest archeological site, but very interesting - highly recommended to do it with a guide (book previously not there) because it is very informative. The place doesnt have many signs

I'm into ancient history so this is a must see if you are too. They are 3 monoliths that are worth seeing and the sun gate is a bonus. The museums are nice and if better if you take a guided tour

Interesting ruins, ancient

All this archeological site is really impressive, in the middle of nowhere. But this gate, still up in the middle of multiple ruins is really special and it is definitely worth to come here and visit the entire place

Incredible temple and pyramid. Little is known about the Tiwanakote people. Their symbolism and technology still defie our understanding. One thing is for sure, we will never stress enough the level of destruction brought by the conquistadores.
