Church of Santiago the Apostle of Nata

Here is a historical monument that can be considered a national treasure. Built in 1522, it is one of the oldest churches in central america. Contrary to some reviews and online articles, this is not the oldest in latin america. Not even the oldest in the country. One thing is for sure, though. This is the oldest church in town and certainly one of the oldest in all of central america.

I am amazed at this place. If you, like myself, are used to modern and fancy churches in developed cities, then you will find the historical aesthetics very interesting. Even though it has been renovated in the past, everything has a look of antiquity. Still has the look of originality. It is like going back in time. Like walking inside a museum. There is an opulent amount of wood used in the structure. The floor is made of brick.

A walk around the church will allow you to see and appreciate the colonial look of this town. It is small and peaceful without any tall buildings within sight.

If you are a history aficionado, reading online materials about this church will teach you about the hidden tunnels, woodwork by indigenous artisans, unearthed bodies, an Indian chief, and a controversial painting by an Ecuadorian artist which is currently on display.

La Basílica Menor de Santiago Apóstol o simplemente, Basílica de Natá, oficialmente declarada como Iglesia Parroquial de Natá, es un templo católico construido en lo que actualmente se conoce como Natá en la provincia de Coclé, República de Panamá. Su construcción fue iniciada en 1522 y se invirtieron más de cien años para su terminación.

"La joyita colonial" hermosa iglesia donde se aprende del arte, la cultura y religión de Panamá. Hay que pagar una pequeña cuota y el guía te da un recorrido completo.

Es una edificación única en si clase. A punto de cumplir 500 años y sigue Majestuosa, Imponente, bella en todo su esplendor. Me encanta mi iglesia colonial.
