My favourite place in the old town of Panama city. Less invaded by tourists than the rest of this part of the city.

I had the task to photograph and draw this park. I spent weeks there and it has been the most peaceful park I have been to. Homeless people sleep on the grass. Birds occasionally poop on you from above. And in the evening it is used as a dining space. The park is wheelchair accessible and sits at the entrance to Iglesia de Santa Ana.

My favourite stop in the center. Just a pleasant local park in front of Santa Ana church. relaxing environment.

Note the book stalls to the north are badly overpriced.

The history of the park goes hand in hand with the history of the church of Santa Ana. Santa Ana was a neighborhood that was outside the city of the city limits and corresponded to an area where poor people lived.
The city of Panama was built as a walled city that included the neighborhood of San Felipe and outside the walls was Santa Ana and El Chorrillo.
The church was built around 1770 and with it the park.
The park was a site for political meetings and where demonstrations ended with speeches.
It was the place where the National Lottery was played on Wednesdays and Sundays.
As the city grew into other neighborhoods, people left Santa Ana and its park. The park has been remodeled several times and is at the beginning of the pedestrian way.

Hübscher Platz mit viel Potential. Auch an der Stelle sicher und abends gut beleuchtet. Die Kirche wird bald renoviert und es eröffnet ein neues Restaurant bald. In ein zwei Jahren ist das ein hipper Platz in Casco Viejo.
