Church of Santa Ana

Plaza Santa Ana was one of the busiest places in Panama City

In those times, what is now known as the Plaza de Santa Ana was the center of the suburb of the city.

The area was used as a market, party place and for bullfights.

It was not until 1890 that it became a park with benches and trees.

The Santa Ana neighborhood was the most populous in the city, where mainly black people lived in freedom.

This church was consecrated in 1764 with the name of the Hermitage of Santa Ana. Santa Ana was the mother of the Virgin Mary.

If you are looking into some real experience related to everyday religious participation (Catholic) from local parishioners, then, you must stop by and participate from it. You can be a witness for baptisms, funerals, rosaries, processions in / outside the church and around the neighborhood, social program activities, or even visit the Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament on the small chapel located outside, on the left side of the church. You will be able to watch people from all ages worship God in silence or by reading some of the material left there for its use.

The church itself has been gone into a few external changes, mostly to fires, but keeps its original images and paints on the walls that has survived throughout the times. Nowadays, it has an air-condition system. When it fails, you can still rely on huge fans. There is no reading material in English, but plenty in Spanish. If you speak a bit of Spanish, people will always try to follow you in whatever you need or ask. This is one of the few churches that has replicas of saints with candles lit for personal intentions and also, larger size images for special holidays displayed to honor God in the old ways (exposing them with lots of flowers).

You can also watch people being fed by the church with the assistance of the offerings and donations from parishioners and people like you and me. The priest always makes emphasis on feeding the poorest of the poor without looking at nobody's fault. Most likely, they wait everyday right by the main entrance.

Un templo hermoso con mucha historia, y su fachada te trasladan ala historia de Panamá.
Agradable y un lugar excelente para orar.
Me encanta bella, recomiendo visitarla.

La iglesia de Santa Ana es muy especial, muy típica, antigua y sobre todo muy espiritual. Tuve la oportunidad de asistir a misa allí a las 6 de la tarde y la verdad me sentí muy transportado, no sé si por el lugar en sí, la energía del sacerdote, la energía de las personas o por todo en sí, pero me pareció un lugar muy especial, me alegró conocer la iglesia y asistir a misa allí a pesar de que un guía nos sugirió no ir al lugar, pero estuve por esa zona casi una semana y me pareció muy tranquilo.

Tiene su historia y la han mejorado, tiene aire acondicionado y los santos estaban bien arreglados.

La iglesia de Santa Ana un lugar espectacular tiene una Vista Hermosa seda acceso principalmente por la parte del parque de Santa Ana si necesita un poco más de Cuidado Se observa que está algo descuidada pero en Sí es muy bonita la iglesia vale la pena visitarla en todo momento tiene aire acondicionador lo único que discrepa es la fachada como la arreglaron sobretodo la fachada frontal por lo demás es un lugar digno de reseñar y visitar en todo moment

Es un lugar muy bonito para descansar ver la gente pasar conversar !

Accesible en auto y tiene estacionamientos seguros.

Excelente con estacionamiento, debes pagar pero tienes el carro con seguridad y cerca

Me parece genial como al pasar de los años han ido mejorando las iglesias catolicas del recorrido de Jueves Santo.
La restauración interior de esta iglesia muy buena.

La fachada frontal hay algunos arbustos en las cornizas que podrian poner en riesgo este elemento de la fachada.

Estan restaurando el altar haciendolo ver como en nuestra época republicana, es un lugar excelente para visitar nacionales y extranjeros. Es una iglesia muy bella. Debe tener más atención el parque tiene muy mal olor y descuidado da tristeza que lo tengan abandonado siendo histórico ya que allí se celebraron los primeros cabildos
