St. Peter's Church

My recent visit to San Pedro Church on the idyllic Taboga Island, just 20 kilometers from Panama City, was a profoundly moving experience that I will cherish forever. As a historical landmark dating back to 1685 and declared a historical monument in 1996, this church stands as a testament to the rich heritage and spiritual depth of the region.

The church's majestic presence is immediately noticeable as it elegantly perches on a terrace, its silhouette a beacon of history and faith. The journey to the church, along a path adorned with a picturesque boardwalk, allowed me to immerse myself in the island's natural beauty, with the soothing South Sea waters enhancing the serene atmosphere.

Upon entering the church, I was greeted by an aura of reverence and tranquility. The interior of the church was a visual and spiritual feast. The altar, with its intricate designs and solemn beauty, stood as the heart of this sacred space. Nearby, the statue of the Virgin Mary exuded a sense of maternal grace and serenity, inspiring a moment of reflection and inner peace.

One of the most captivating features was the monument dedicated to the Virgin Mary. This striking tribute was not only an artistic marvel but also a symbol of the deep-rooted Catholic traditions that permeate the church and the island. The attention to detail in every aspect of the church's interior spoke volumes about the care and devotion invested in this spiritual haven.

The walls of the church, painted in pure white, seemed to tell stories of the past, their irregular surfaces a canvas of historical narratives. The exterior, while simple, resonated with a sense of timelessness and continuity, bridging the gap between the colonial era and the present day.

This visit to San Pedro Church was more than a tour; it was a journey through time, culture, and spirituality. La segunda iglesia mas antigua del continente americano, es grande y su torre con campanario sobresale de toda la isla y es facil de encontrarla, ubicado frente a la plaza del Carmen, es muy bella en su interior y exterior, cuenta mucha historia es parte elemental en tu viaje por la isla, asisten muchas personas para las patronales y semana santa.

Simple, histórica y linda!

La iglesia de san Pedro es la segunda iglesia edificada en el litoral Pacífico en todo el continente Americano. Se ofician misas los domingos. Fue edificada por Hernando de Luque, quien también fundó el pueblo de san Pedro, ahora conocido como Taboga.

Muy pintoresco el templo a tono con el lugar y su gente creyente. Esa noche se celebró el dia de San Pedro.
