Every shrine and temple of Nepal is surrounded by ancient myths, stories , religious values and legends. This temple’s history is also about 250 years old when a simple and benevolent resident of the same village Bhagwan Chaudhary house was robbed ,the thieves were caught by the villagers and were killed on the spot. Bhagwan Chaudhary took the blame on his head to save his fellow villagers from the conviction. He was sent to the jail. The Goddess kept appearing in his dream demanding him to take her to the crime scene. She freed him from the prison and took him to the village where now there is an actual shrine of the Goddess. In return Goddess asked him to sacrifice 5 humans in every five year. Bhagwan Chaudhary being the kind man offered his own life being unable to perform human sacrifice. Instead he pleaded with the goddess to offer Pancha bali (a quintuple sacrifice) every five years. Therefore the World’s biggest sacrifice was started in a temple.

It's a peaceful place but may be hard to locate if you are an outsider but ask help with locals and don't rely on Google maps for location

The best religious temple of Goddess Gadhi Mai. She originally belongs to there. Gadhi Mai temples are everywhere but this temple in Bariyarpur is the original one. It has the biggest fair (Mela) of Nepal in every 5 years. It is also the biggest temple where sacrifice of animals are given. I every 5 years, thousands of animals are sacrificed here.

Awesome Experience with every visit. Easy to travel and roads are good now. This place has an amazing vibe. There are several spots to celebrate a picnic around the temple along with worshiping.

It is one of the famous temple of terai region. There are statues of goddess and river. It is a very nice religious place to visit and do not forget to tie dhaga in hands they are available there. I have visited that temple now it's yours turn💖🇳🇵

Gadhimai is a former independent municipality in Bara District in of south-eastern Nepal that was merged into Jeetpur Simara Sub-Metropolitan City on 10 March 2017. It was itself established on 18 May 2014 by merging Pipara Simara, Jitpur Bhawanipur, Chhata Pipra, Phattepur, Dumbarwana Village Development Committees.

The main temple of Gadhimai is in the Bariyarpur village of Mahagadhimai Municipality in the Bara District of south-central Nepal in Madhesh province.
I visited this temple in the months of December of 2022.

Famous for a fair which comes every five year. Just 25 km from India-Nepal boarder, place with alots of devotees round the year. Can use private or public transport to reach the temple. Adjacent lake makes it more adorable.

Very quite at this time as we went in Nov so ...but its nice to be there when no any mela as you can see much more then the Mela time...good place to visit...
