I've been here twice, once during the fall season and now during Christmas season and both times it was incredibly cute and cozy. I've been to both markets, the regular one in Fall and the Christmas market and it's always been a wonderful time to walk around the adorable houses and shops as well as walking around the fort itself.

I can highly recommend coming here at least once and particularly during the Christmas season. They have many kid friendly activities, too. You do have to purchase tickets for the markets but the prices are sensible, in my opinion. The market opening times and special themes can be found on their website.

It's such a great highlight in Groningen province and a wonderful afternoon trip.

A very nice place. Visited during winter time and I think it is most beautiful in spring and summer.

Impressive geo-engineering. Nice thing about it, you only have to pay if you want to visit the museum, so visiting the village is free.

Holland in a nutshell. If you want to see how Dutchmen lived hundreds years ago, you'll have the vibe there. Nice to go with kids, although not many playgrounds or kids focused things there. Take a warm cap cuz it's vrieselijk windy!

Amazing experience from the 1700, very nice site seeing trip with rich history, restaurants and cafes are available and provides good service, buying a hand made souvenir is really nice for special occasions.

I enjoyed the architecture alot

What a great fantastic place to be! Take one or better 3 days...visit this busy little village. Everyone is kind and the views from the remparts are making a contemplative mood. We've been there for reenacting, time-travelling in this little village is a dream.Unfortunately, that doesn't come across in the photos. You have to make this experience yourself. Totally worth it! Go for it.

It is a nice area to have when you are making a quick stroll. No entrance few if you don’t want the guided tour, which I find very nice when you just want to do sigh seeing. The area is very well maintained and clean. There were just one restaurant when we came there so we needed to eat outside the area cause we don’t have much of a choice. But overall, it is a very nice area to visit.

It's a very nice little fortress. We had a very nice guide that told us everything about the history of the place. There is also an area for playing games: bow and arrow, shooting, throwing the horseshoe, canoeing etc. The guys there are friendly, laid back and fun and they made our experience really special. I'd definitely recommend the place for a fun day out.

Beautiful place to walk around and experience a bit of history. You can enter the town for free. It seems some people live there. There's an entrance to pay if you want to visit 5 little museums.

A bit of the beaten track on the border with Germany but definitely worth while a visit. Cute little fortress restored in style of the year 1742. Only minus is that most of the information is only available in Dutch or German. However most of the people speak English and are very helpful explaining or answering your questions.

Amazing atmosphere especially during renaissance fairs. Place with a rich history and rich fauna (lots of nesting birds), neat little pubs and all kinds of Nederland goodies. + Friendly people :)

I went here in the autumn when it gets dark very soon so could not see much. But I bet in the summer it'll be so much nocer in the day light. There's a small eatery place there which is really nice too!

A really nice place to visit. We went to the Christmas Market which was nice, in a really cool location (not a traditional market which made a change). Unfortunately the information centre re the history appeared to be closed. But it was still well worth a visit.

Great historical site with little shops and restaurants. Unfortunately, it was raining while we were there, so we did not get to explore as much as we would have liked.
