Hotel Fidder - Patrick's Whisky Bar

We booked a cycling holiday through fietsrelax.nl and found ourselves with one night at this wonderful hotel in Zwolle. Upon arrival, even on a grey day we could see what a beautiful building it is. To an Englishman an Edwardian style villa with art nouveaux flourishes everywhere. Beautiful tiling and brickwork. This is a family owned and run hotel and it shows. The staff are wonderful, we were always greeted with friendly smiles and conversation, from the young man undertaking housekeeping duties, to Patrick manning reception (and later his eponymous whiskey bar) to Patrick’s lovely sister who served us our perfect breakfast in he morning.
Our room, like the entirety of the hotel is designed to pay homage to the era of this protected building and its original features (plaster ceilings , stained glas windows, internal doors etc) and at every turn there are interesting antiques and features designed to both add to the ambiance of this unique hotel and to make the guest stay even better.
Our room had all the amenities and more, iron and ironing boards, kettle and hair dryer, TV etc, but we also had a beautifully restored French style stove and an incredible canopied bed. Bathrobe and slippers? of course.
As if the hotel wasn’t enough on its own I was thrilled to discover an amazing whiskey bar which was a treasure trove of single malts and unusual casks etc. Patrick is very knowledgeable and we enjoyed a late drink and they had my favourite whiskey (a Japanese brand called Nikka). We saw others enjoying a whiskey tasting session there earlier that evening in one of the lovely period rooms.
There is a gorgeous library room which had we more time would be my go to spot for a game of cards.
As it was, we walked into Zwolle old town within a few minutes to enjoy the local sights of this ancient fortress village.
In the morning the breakfast proved to be all you could hope for. Instead of the usual array of Tea bags, a fantastic selection of quality loose teas and the fascilities to make a proper pot, coffee? Various types (I chose a lovely Brazilian blend). Best of all for an Englishman, real good quality back bacon of a kind I struggle to find here in NL. There was great fresh bread and cooked dishes as well as all the cheeses and cold cuts, eggs and yoghurts and muesli you might want. We will come back and spend a few nights here for certain. The hotel is positioned to allow cyclists and motorists access to so many beautiful routes and the villages and small ports that make up this part of the country.
Did I mention there was free print directly in front of the hotel? All in all a great experience from start to finish. The opposite of a bland corporate name experience. Highly recommended.

Very cute unique hotel! The staff is super nice and the rooms were clean. Breakfast was tasty also and within 10/15 minutes walking you’re in the city. I recommend this place!

Good location, Great hotel, and excellent staff. Even in these difficult times with Corona they do their best to make your stay perfect. The room was clean and spacious. We had a small sauna and bubble bath which was also nice. The breakfast was very rich and tasty. We highly recommend this hotel l!

Loved this place, fabulous building and decor. Amazing breakfast, 10 mins walk to city and train station. Rooms with balconies, jacuzzi bath, tea and coffee making facilities. Lovely food, really helpful owner and staff. Felt welcome

Hotel with its antique style has defenitly personality. Every room is different and unique. It is really a pleasant and nice place to stay and for us it turned out to be in the best period of the winter when it was snowy and cold outside, which made it more pleasant even. Great and hospitable staff and services, food was in one word word great. Great breakfast. Great atmosphere.

This hotel is definitely recommended if you are looking for a hotel with a special local vibe. The location is ideal for downtown Zwolle and the street parking is free. If you are a whiskey lover, this is your place. The tidiness of hotel despite its age is amazing. Also, the sauna in the room is a bonus. Don't miss the breakfast too, you will regret it if you miss it.

The hotel is lovely! All of the staff were friendly.
It is outside of the old city, but within walking distance, and on a beautiful street.

I absolutely love this place. It's about 5-10 min. walk from the city center, but the hotel is totally worth it. Beautiful neighborhood and decoration. Nice staff, awesome breakfast. I love the room, beautiful, and very comfortable bed. There is a cooker and free instant coffee and tea. Nice shower.

We stayed in this location for only one night. I found the staff to be very professional. We were leaving early morning, we asked the staff were to leave the room key. The room was very nice and clean.As we were leaving at about 4.30 in the morning one of the staff members ran to the car with two breakfasts for my wife and my self. I have never received this service at any hotel that I have stayed at in Europe or North America

Very cosy, in art deco(?) Style hotel is s rijksmonument. Very good service, tasty breakfast. And last but not least a very impressive whiskey bar.

Such a great experience at both the hotel and restaurant. Kind and professional staff, delicious food and wide variety of drinks. 10/10 would recommend!
