National Prison Museum

Very interesting to learn how people used to treat prisoners and staff. Their clothes, punishments, circumstances. A lot has changed since the old days.
My son is sworn in as a civil servant. We received a tour of the museum as part of the festivities.

Visited 5 years ago, I cannot imagine a life spending in a jail, I took so many details in the jail, it made me thinking about my life, highly recommended

Very nice museum. More interesting than i suspected. More interesting, specially knowing the NPO documentary "The Dictator" was recorded in " De Rode Pannen"

nice museum that tells the tale of prison life through the ages. You can book an additional must-do tour to an abandoned prison, in my opinion the star of the show! The whole village has been preserved in the 18/19th century style. Superb.day out!

TOP! One of my favourite musea. Ride on prisoner's old bus recommended. "Rode pannen" was already fully booked. Have enjoyed their "kraak de code" quest/hunt!

Big museum with a long story about the area and the building. Worth to visit both for kids and adults. A bit hard to go with public transport. Museumkaart valid

Go to jail, have a good time!
This place is wonderful for scaring children straight or getting inspiration for a nice evening.
It goes into great detail about past and contemporary prisons and the justice system (in the Netherlands). The audio tour is very well done.

Check out the bostoren nearby also, for great views.

Nice museum with exhibits not only from Veenhuizen, all related to prisons and the Dutch legal system. Good tourist shop
Small bar/restaurant and clean toilets, and multiple places where you can clean your hands with alcohol.
