We spent four hours in the castle. If we had been allowed, we would have stayed there for a long time. But not in the dungeon!! 😆😆
What to do in the castle:
- listen to the gossip of the ladies of the court
- warm up with onion soup
- fly in the attic in a hot air balloon
- go through a quest with the children
- draw your coat of arms and proudly ride on a horse
- get lost in rooms, stairs, turns, corridors
- shoot from bow
- and the most amazing thing is to watch knightly battles

Would definitely recommend visiting this castle! It has an interactive tour that is great for the kids (and adults). Our family especially liked being able to climb to the top of the highest tower and lock ourselves in the dungeon. Very cool!

Beautiful castle, set in a picturesque location.. it was closed when we got there but we were still able to enter the courtyard and surrounding area.
Immaculately kept.

Located at a nice place but there was no jungle near this castle.
You have to buy tickets to get entry here.
There are nothing special inside the castle.
You can visit TerWorm which is not so far from this castle.

Overall a worthy visit.

Its a great place to visit if you like history! I came here with my partner and didn't have a clue what to do or see, but when we went in it was a blast. I had loads of fun looking at the old history, nice architecture and amazing story telling and backstory of every accessible room.

Great family experience, with an optional scavenger hunt for the kids. The holograms explaining bits of the history are a great recent addition.

Very beautiful castle. It is quite a sizeable building with an attic and a basement. The main rooms are well decorated and you could watch a short film about the history of the house and function of each room. Some rooms are even interactive digitally. There were a lot of small games in the basement for people to play.

Hoensbroek Castle (Dutch: Kasteel Hoensbroek) or Gebrook Castle (Dutch: Gebrookhoes) is one of the largest castles in the Netherlands. It is situated in Hoensbroek, a town in the province of Limburg. This imposing watercastle is known as 'the most lordly stronghold between Rhine and Meuse'. The oldest part of the castle, notably the tall round tower, dates from around 1360, when it was built by Herman Hoen, though a predecessor to the castle had already existed in the swamp (or Gebrook) the castle was located in. This so-called motte-and-bailey dated from around 1225. In 1250 a fortified manor was built on the location of the present castle. Because of its important strategical location in the Duchy of Brabant, located along important trading routes to Maastricht, Aachen and Cologne, the castle was expanded in several phases, becoming the largest stronghold between the Meuse and the Rhine rivers. It contains at least 67 halls, rooms and living quarters.

Beautiful Castle. Tour of the day was only in dutch so we did not take it. However the guide seemed very Charismatic.

Its not as big as it seems. Can be visited in about 1 hour. Ground are well maintained and makes for some nice photos. (Weather on the day of our visit was a bit dull).

Parking is free

Recommended if in the area

Very nice and big castle ground.
The old tower lets you experience the medieval times. Including the dungeon and the construction of top of the tower and narrow tower stairs.

The rest of the rooms are a bit empty but very nice restored.

I think the entire ground could be uttilized more. But I think that would cost a lot of money.

Very impressive castle!.

As described in the information guides, it’s the most beautiful Dutch castle worth a visit.
It’s beautifully preserved and so interesting to walk around and imagine how life used to be in the castle.

A complete surprise, this massive castle will have you two hours occupied in its main building. The interesting thing about it is that you follow a tour with a booklet through the 13th-14th, 17th and 18th centuries. The medieval tower is brilliant (go up to the top) and there are quite a few audiovisual stops that add color to the experience. The Museumkaart is accepted. An easy 2 km walk from a local train station.

Beautiful castle, specially the old part, dating from 1375. Impressive building, really a lot to walk and to see. Take the time, you'll need it if you want to see it well.

Nice way to spend a morning. 40 euros for the family to get in. If note, they do not take credit card, so it's either debit card or cash. Well presented throughout with guidebooks and av features available in English, German and French in addition to German. Enjoyable and informative.

Truly beautiful castle with a very clear guided tour that takes you to all the interesting spots. Fun stuff for kids to do and interesting stuff for the parents. Not too busy while we visited, which was also a blessing. Definitely a good way to spend a day.

Such a beautiful castle with a moat surrounding it. There are swans, geese, and ducks floating around peacefully. Through the small bridge, you can get inside the castle but for now it’s forbidden to get in the building due to COVID.
