Butterflies at the Vliet

So wonderful ~ we spent a couple of hours here, we bought the butterfly sheet where we could tick off all the different butterflies we could find! There were also so many other animals to see like ducks, birds, iguanas, parrots and more.. really enjoyed my time here! Also, a great spot for children to have fun and identify all the animals and even feed the ducks as well as fish.

We liked here a lot! Much more fun than we thought. Iguanas, baby crocodiles, colorful butterflies, birds, snakes. Made our day.

We spent almost 2 hours here, it was amazing and the variety of both flora and fauna was fantastic. We had a lovely chat with Jan who showed us around and explained some things about the butterflies and their breeding. It's very humid inside, but has lots of benches to sit around and admire.

Lovely place to spend a few hours of your afternoon. Beautiful tropical setting inside a couple of greenhouses. Butterflies, Birds, reptiles and something unexpected with big teeth ;) i often take my overseas friends here when they visit or just visit to practice my photography. Its always fun to feed the beautiful Spotted teal ducks by hand. Reasonably priced. Around 10€ per adult. Easy access with bus 45 from Den Haag Central station. Small cafe on location to enjoy an icecream or coffee. PS Bring Water and dress accordingly (it gets quite hot in there). attached photos are from my latest visit.

A tropical garden filled with mainly butterflies of various types but it also contains crocodiles, turtles, frogs and other interesting animals.

Walking through this beautiful garden you will spot all stages of becoming a butterfly and the fungus that consumes them.

The people working there are passionate about butterflies and full of knowledge, do say 'hi' to them and ask any question you might have.

There is a small shop and cafe and the garden is accessible for those with mobility issues but some sideways might not be easily accessible.

Perfect day out with kids when the weather is cold outside.
There are a lot of beautiful butterflies, birds and a few reptiles to see, jungle paths to explore, but I think the best is the staff. They are really passionate about these animals and ready to take the time to explain anything you want to know.

Wonderful little indoor garden filled with butterflies and little paths to explore. Dress in breezy clothing; tropical climate. There are some aquaria and other small animals, but you’ll probably come for the butterflies and you won’t be disappointed! Careful where you step; they might even sit on a path you walk on. ;)

This is a little hidden gem! It's not huge, but there is plenty to see and explore. The little "wild" paths going through the jungle, the small benches where you can sit and enjoy the butterflies dancing around in the sunlight is truly magical. Also, you can feed the fish and the ducks around the greenhouse. There are also birds roaming around, and if you search for a while you will find all sorts of animals! From lizards to zebra finches to leaf insects and catterpillars, you can take your time to explore it all.
A few helpful tips for others:
- Wheelchair friendly parking, entrance, and paths!
- If it gets too hot, you can take a break outside and cool down before going back in!
- If you want to feed the ducks or fish, bring 50 and 20 cent coins!
- *please* dress for the climate! Even if it's 15 degrees outside, it will be nearly 30 inside the greenhouse.
- There are cold drinks available, but pack some extra so you don't dehydrate!
- Truly take your time to look under leaves and up in the trees and bushes! Some butterflies hide or there are catterpillars to be seen.

So nice, not so big but so amazing

Island of tropical summer all year round. Nice for changing atmosphere, relax, taking pictures. There is also a basilisk, a crocodile, some frogs. There is also a place to have some snacks and a souvenir shop which my kids never pass by

Nice place to spend an hour with kids. If you go when they allow you to pet snakes it's double fun! The ice cream in the cafeteria is bit pricey.

Beautiful place and very friendly staff, great place for kids to explore or even a quite day out for some other then just coffee. Amazing experience

Lots more than just butterflies to see. Birds, crocs, spiders, iguanas too. Look out for the eggs, caterpillars and chrysalises all around. Spoke to Jan, the owner/zookeeper who was incredible and full of information. Loved it.

This garden is definitely a hidden gem near Leiden- placed slightly outside of the city it is a beautiful garden full of exotic birds and butterflies. The entrance was just under 10€ and it was totally worth it.

A tropical corner with fantastic butterfles and plants in the Netherlands.

Great little location for an outing, we didn't stay longer that two hours, nice to see all of the butterflies.

It's not a very big place, but a lot to see! Had a few hours of fun. If you are in to photography take your camera with you.

This was absolutely beautiful. And really fun for kids and adults.
Even teenagers.
