St Pauls Anglican Church Nkwerre

This is the first Anglican church that was set up in Nkwerre, Imo state. It was established in 1918 with the foundation stone laid in 1925 by his lordship, Rt. Rev. Bertram Lasbury D. D. This church has played a very important role in the moral and spiritual growth of the people of Nkwerre and her environs. It used to have a large bell outside the church, but this bell is currently housed within the church as the upgraded building was designed in a way to have this fall within the church. It is used to announce the beginning of service and can be heard from miles away. The compound is very large and houses the residence for the clergy men and the school. It also has more than enough space for parking. If you do find yourself in Nkwerre, do make time to worship here and you will enjoy it.

St Pauls Anglican Church remains a heritage to the Nkwerre people because our grand fathers told us how they took part in hewing Iroko trees that were used in constructing the original Church that was pulled down to make way for the new bigger edifice. This Church ought to have been the Cathedral for Orlu Anglican diocese and was the pro-cathedral until a new structure was erected at Mgbaboano as the Cathedral. The old church members vehemently opposed the idea of pulling down the old structure.

This is my Home Church and I am proud to be called Nwa St Paul's Anglican Church Nkwerre. From the Levite family....
