Batu-Batu island has a magical aura, that allows you to just relax and be present in its natural beauty.

My partner and I stayed at a beach view villa (most flights of stairs to walk up to) but it was well worth it. We don’t have children, and there were many on the island (especially beach front/pool front villas).

Meals were overall good, usually the local meal choice is the best way to go, but I have to say I had a steak there better than most steaks I’ve had in Aussie!

Big ups to Sam the Man at the dining room, all the dining staff under him, and Benny the manager that was very apologetic after we told him that our room was not up to (our) standards.

Don’t expect a 5* Maldives/sanitised resort. There will be many varying insect visitors (mosquito net above bed solves any issues) but I think that’s part of the charm. Batu-Batu Island resort’s allure is in its eco-centric family friendliness (would 100% recommend for that), and in its pristine private beaches (AMAZING snorkelling) and service from the hospitality team.

Also - tips aren’t expected, but highly appreciated. Be a good egg and put 10% of your stay split between dining, kitchen, room turndowns/service.

And pro tip: you can bring food/drink from Mersing. It’s Rm12 per can of soft drink, and if you’re snack fiend like me late at night, pack them noms!

Just wrapped up our 4 day stay here and we know we are definitely coming back! cant believe such a gem exists so close to Singapore. A beautiful piece of paradise that is largely untouched, and developed ever so considerately by the resort owners. The staff are amazing, every single one of them always has a smile on their face and just made our stay so much more memorable.

Had an enjoyable stay with family and our 8 month old baby at Batu Batu Resort. The staff were all excellent. Super attentive, friendly and helpful. Their energy is real and always puts you in a good mood. Special mention to Restaurant Manager Sam, Jo-Ji and Dhurga for taking care of us. Food was yummy and a good selection across our 4 day stay. The kitchen also prepared delicious puree food for our baby which was a lovely touch. The beaches were beautiful with good marine life. Free snorkels and fins were a nice touch. Rooms could do with a little more love in terms of replacement of air-conditioner which felt old. Toilet fittings were a little older and could do with a refresh.
The Spa was amazing. Wife and I had fantastic massages. Gina gave me what I would rank as Top 2 massages I've had in my life across resorts.
Overall we had a great time at Batu Batu!

We spent a week at Batu Batu as a family of three, including our 5 years old daughter. We had an amazing experience.
The island is stunning. Beautiful beaches including a large, white sand paradise beach (Long Beach) which was surprisingly quiet all day long. Plenty of snorkelling opportunities and also options to walk around and explore the island and its interesting past.
The staff was increadibly welcoming, especially with our daughter. Their smiles were genuine and you could tell they are a close knit team. Special thanks to Sam, Jo-Ji, Simi and Dhurga for looking after us so well.
The restaurant surpassed our expectations. 3 meals offered, each with local and western food options, plus afternoon snaks. We mostly had local food and it compared very favourably vs other Malay establishments on the mainland.
There are only 22 rooms, most of which welcome families. They are large and beautiful, built with mostly natural materials, in stunning settings on the beach or in the jungle, but never far from the ocean
There are only two potential improvement aspects I'd flag
1. Some of the room fixtures - esp in the bathroom - are beginning to show their age
2. The pool is great but was almost always too busy (surprising since the beaches are so beautiful and empty). I know staff can't do much about it - but perhaps you should discourage guests from "booking" their personal sunbed for the whole day (by leaving a towel on it) whether they are there or not, so that others can enjoy the pool too for bits of the day
Overall we had a wonderful time and hopefully we'll be back one day

We stayed for 3 nights at the end of June and absolutely loved everything about the resort and the island. This trip was a big splurge for our family and we considered other islands, but are SO glad we went with Batu Batu and Tengah. We did a bit of everything on the island: snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, volleyball, beach combing, pool time, attending a shark lecture, and walking around 75% of the island (the far east shore is difficult access and we didn't want to get stuck). I can truly say we enjoyed everything! The island always felt private because of the large amount of space relative to the small number of guests. Almost every beach we visited we had to ourselves. The snorkeling was very good, though I was glad we had several days because water visibility and conditions varied a lot day-to-day. The biggest surprise was how much I loved the food. I'm not a foodie and would usually rather spend my time snorkeling or hiking than eating, but even I appreciated the quality and variety of dishes offered. My husband's only complaint was sometimes being too full to fully enjoy the next meal haha. On top of that the facilities and staff were top-notch. Everyone was friendly and helpful, kind and welcoming. Our beach-front bungalow was gorgeous, and the our kids were so excited to have their own bunk beds. We were so happy on this island we even tried to add an extra night (sadly it was already reserved). We hope to be back, thank you so much Batu Batu!

Amazing resort and experience. We stayed one week and enjoyed every minute. Everything was perfect, the rooms, the amenities, food, service, and of course the island itself. Almost every day we had a beach to ourselves and it felt like a private island. Special mention to the kitchen which provided a vegan menu for each meal on request, to the beach bar with fresh coconuts, and to the lovely staff which were so kind and accommodating.

As for the wildlife, the beginners house reef is not great - not much to see. We did have a lot of luck with seeing sharks (baby and adult) from the water and from the beach!

Batu Batu is a beautiful place to come and disconnect for a while. Great beaches, snorkelling and tranquillity wherever you look.

Beautiful resort like a paradise ! It’s located in Johor .

Private resort with limited room and high privacy , should you consider a beach holiday this could be be your next one.

The hotel staff are well trained and friendly. Should visited here just 1.5hrs from JB. Will be back here again ❤

This trip with my family may be the first, but it would definitely not be the last. It is more than the scenic, beautiful and peaceful island that really made our stay here so special but the people and their immaculate attention and care made this extra with the exceptional hospitality given by Mr Adel, Mr Sam, Mr Joji and Miss dhurga and the team. Never once we felt neglected and we were treated like family. Thanks so much for the love and kindness showered upon us. Love from all of us Tuan Wee, Eu Gene, Shu En and Shu An

We stayed at Batu Batu with my whole family and all of us truly enjoyed our stay.
The island is beautiful, if you're a fan of snorkeling, this will tick your box, you don't have to go really far to enjoy the beauty of the corals, fish, stingrays and even friendly sharks!
The staff from the reception to the restaurant/bar and the snorkeling gear is kind, helpful and professional.
The food was fresh and tasty, even if you are offered a limited menu, everyone can find their happiness and it's made to order.
Not having the WiFi (except at the reception) meant that we could properly disconnect.
Coming from Singapore, we will definitely go back and visit Batu Batu again!

> Don't forget to bring your own reusable water bottle and lots of mosquito repellent!

An amazing place to be in for a relaxing holiday. We had the jungle deluxe villa as it was the last one available so book in advance before deciding to go there. I think it was the best choice for the villa as the ocean view ones named with S9 to S13 are too far on the island walking distance to the “beach bar” area - or so it seemed for us. Food is okay too but they could improve on the breakfast pastries and the room decor which had plastic petals, is definitely not gelling well with the eco-friendly vibe of the place. Minor details which can be easily fixed.

There is also a few activities on the island but the beach is so breathtaking that you can easily wind down and just be. We will come back for sure.

Spectacular location, best service in Malaysia, delicious food, quiet, natural, traditional. My favorite resort! I spent two weeks on a writing retreat. Don’t expect a party, beach chairs kind of a thing. It’s simplicity done really really well and with a lot of heart. The staff is incredibly kind and considerate!! I’m going back in a week!!!

Beautiful resort with friendly and helpful staff, a big thank you to all for making this a good holiday for my family.

The room was big but the bathroom was even bigger with a centre piece bathtub that looks out to the beach. Too many aunties kept walking by my chalet hoping to get a look during my baths but I think they were just exploring.

Food was big portion but perhaps only one out of every five dishes was tasty. My photos made them look good but taste wise, really not up to mark. The beaches were fun to play in but not for snorkelling as the viz was bad and sea was choppy during the monsoon. The soft sand was beautiful and great efforts have been taken to keep them clean.

Our family had 5 nights on Batu Batu and it is by far the friendliest, most beautiful place we have ever been to. It was calm, stylish but unpretentious with amazing food. The staff were so positive and friendly it was the relaxing break we needed so much. Thank you Batu Batu!

Batu Batu is a beautiful private resort, perfect for a romantic getaway. For the outdoorsy couple, there is a hiking trail going round the island - we also kayak-ed round the island and made stops at the different pretty beaches of Pulau Tengah and snorkelled.

There are only 22 villas so the resort does not get overly crowded which is great as the whole place is so peaceful. The swimming pool overlooks the ocean and it was really relaxing to cool ourselves there after spending a day at the beach.

Meals are full board - and though on the pricier side, the meals were delicious and value for money, especially since guests are offered a choice.

Our villa was lovely, furnished with a comfy bed and a spacious bathroom with the largest bath tub I've ever seen.

The service and friendliness of the staff was top notch. Everyone was so warm and welcoming and always had a smile on their face.

I highly recommend coming here for at least 3 nights to soak in the sun and enjoy this hidden gem of an island.

Just returned home after a 3 days/2 nights stay at Batu Batu Resort. From the jetty pick up to drop off - the team did an amazing job. Special mention to the Restaurant team - especially Sam (Manager) & Jo Ji (Captain) - were amazing. And the food was fantastic, at RM300 per person per day, it was truly very good. I would not encourage a visit during monsoon season as the sea was quite rough and no visibility for snorkeling. All in all - a great experience and we will surely return in better weather!

Best island resort in Malaysia!

Our stay at Batu Batu Resort is an excellent break from the city life. We stayed in the beach front villa and the views and sound from the ocean were splendid! Beyond the relaxing atmosphere of the villa, the next best part was the fantastic food and excellent service by the Team at the Restaurant. The staff was very attentive, professional and friendly. Kudos to Sam, Chef Khairi, Syikin, Gulfam and everyone who makes our stay a wonderful mini-vacation!

P/s: if you went during monsoon season u might be having the island for yourself. The weather is still beautiful and the resort is really well kept. We were really enjoy our stay during the Monsoon.

Our favorite, easy, vacation spot in the region. It's a 2.5hr drive and 30 min boat ride from Singapore. The sand and sea are perfect, the villas are large a d comfortable (great for kids with the attached bunk bed annexes). And the food is excellent, not a lot of choice, but it's all delicious and the drinks are great. You might feel a bit out of place coming without kids in tow, but if you want an easy and beautiful family beach holiday this is the spot!
