Such an informative venue. Slightly difficult to find if you go on the bus but we'll worth the effort. I think on the day we went there were only two other families visiting. The exhibits are well presented with factual information, this is not a theme park but a museum telling of times at the end of the second world war that carried on after the main war had finished.

Perfect place if you want to learn about war in Malaysia. Location is uphill and a top isn’t a small hill.

The Penang War Museum is a former British fort that was used as a prisoner of war camp during World War II. It is a sobering but important place to visit, and it is a tribute to the courage and resilience of the prisoners who were held there.

My family and I recently visited the museum and we had a good time exploring the exhibits. We learned a lot about the history of the war and the experiences of the prisoners. The exhibits were well-presented and informative, and we found them to be very engaging.

We also enjoyed the opportunity to walk around the grounds of the museum, which are full of historical significance. We saw the tunnels and underground chambers that were used by the Japanese during the war, and we also visited the prisoner of war camp.
The Penang War Museum is a worthwhile visit for anyone interested in World War II history or the history of Malaysia. It is a sobering reminder of the horrors of war, but it is also a tribute to the courage and resilience of the prisoners who were held there.

Good place to visit when you at Penang, a lot of historic artefacts especially ww2 remain of British and Japan, its a huge area of fortress build by the British. Really recommended for Malaysian to come and learn something abt our history, bring your kids and show them how we fight for the freedom.

RM 38 for foreigners aka tourists. Not too suitable for young children. Best suited for secondary school History students.

Preservation was done v well. Kudos to Mr Johari! It's really not easy to set up n maintain a place like this. It's truly an eye-opener for me. Highly recommended to visit 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼 10🌟

Ideal timing for visit 10-1. Not too hot n not too dark, so it's less scary for some? Natural n authentic setting so please apply sunblock, insect repellent n bring your water bottle. ** Wear covered toe shoes comfy for walking n climbing stairs.

Well use of space n design to guide all visitors (regardless of ages n backgrounds) thro just by following red arrows on d ground. There's so much to see (n learn) n to keep me occupied. I have d knowledge fr sch, now it's to match what I see with what I alr know n to absorb more information.

There r descriptions at d different stations in 3 languages - English, Malay n Chinese.

Won't share all d pix I took so there's still suspense. This is d #1 attraction in Penang not to b missed. Visit it to see for yourself!!

p.s. Officer's Mess is closed for reno.

!!!!Hit 👍 if you like this review!!!!

Easy to find:
Google maps friendly
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Admission fee:
Rm22 per person, 1st impression a bit steep for a muzium but believe me, WORTH EVERY EXPERIENCE!!!!!
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Experience:
Worth every penny, got few tunnels, that you can climbs, explore, the place is huge, many to explore, the area is suitable for relaxing, healing if you love the forest, birds chips, bugs sounds, very zen like if you close your eyes and take a deep breath
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Cons:
If got someone to explain, a tour guide, or the information boards can make a bit more attractive, i think not only we could learn history in a very practical way, but can make the youth more appreciate about out history
Some of the information not make any sense, especially the letters, very small letters, if got some videos, or some attractive info would definitely be helpful

Some of the highlight are poorly maintained, for example the barracks, don't put some old branches, some old beds, make it more attractive, live play would really make the place more alive

Definitely if someone can make the place more entertain and more enjoyable for tourists, i would be ok to pay more

Definitely Worth all the praise and stars

Parking:
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Easily accessible

Advice;
Not recommended for elderly that have knee problems, got many steep stairs,

This place is really huge. So many artifacts, buildings dated from World War 2 to be seen. At some point, this place can be spooky too. You guys should try the underground tunnel. It's really fun. Ticket is RM 22 per entry (adult).

Interesting and atmospheric place for learning Malaya's history during WW2. Got to see bunkers, lock-ups, office spaces, gallows, tunnels, escape routes and many more.

Reccomended, as this museum is more of a historical site/fort and definitely not a newly built building with aircons and relics encased in glass like other museums.

This place the answer to Cu Chi Tunnel in Vietnam in case you been there.

Just another probably forgotten place from our itinerary of Penang trip. But believe me, this place is worth a visit even you need to pay entrance fee.

Built from the real British fort at higher ground since 1930s, this place exhibit war remnant during that timing.

Photos from Google Map may not appealing to you but the experience of real visit will be really worth it if you appreciate history.

Great place to go back in time and relive the the footprints of war. The museum is very well kept and preserved. The entire fortress is massive so kids need to be monitored closely. Do wear comfortable shoes to explore as there are actual buildings, escape routes and tunnels for you to crawl and climb on. Certain parts of the museum can be quite spooky but if you are up for a self challenge, they do have a night tour.

Entrance fee per person (adult) for local RM22. This museum is so big. It gives me so much goosebumb experience since it was the real fort used during british&Japan colonized Malaya land.

This is perhaps the best kept secret on Penang Island, couldn't believe I was the only person walking around this amazing site today. Whilst only several guns remain, alot of the buildings erected by the British in the 1930s are still there as well as the gun placements and bunkers. I loved walking round with the peace and solitude of the surroundings, it gave this place the solemnity it deserves after the atrocities committed by the Japanese when they took control of this Fort. This is not the place to bring screaming kids. I see this place also as a war memorial to those who suffered and died here. Great place to visit, no hesitation giving this 5 stars.
