Very nice museum. I adored and enjoyed the garden mostly. Just the garden can take a whole day but mind the mosquitos and it would be convenient to carry some spray i didn't have with me and it was very itchy the whole time, other than that lovely experience.

Visited local village 'kampung houses' which brought back memories of my grandma's house in Kampung Sembulan. We used to run around in the compound playing 'police and theft' or 'masak, masak' (cooking). Lots of us used to sleep in one room during school holidays on bunk beds or on the floor and it was fun. I'm glad they built these traditional houses to show how 'kampung' people used to live, a simple life with minimum amenities. It would have been more interesting if the museum included an exhibition on the type of games which children used to play during that time.

Just a heads up that the museum is under repairs. Access for those with limited mobility is difficult or nonexistent.

Architecturally the museum is very interesting, with what appeared to be native designs incorporated into the building. There are no docents or audio guides available. It is a museum with great potential that appears to be severely neglected.

That being said, what is on display is impressive. The native woven fabrics, cultural objects, the culture of head hunting, and other displays related to local cultural practices are highly informative. The displays on bobohizans could be more detailed, but it was a good introduction. They displayed real skulls from head hunting days.

There are many missed opportunities here, especially considering the cultural and ecological richness of Sabah. The museum should be chock-a-block with displays related to Sabah. Instead, they chose to prioritize a display of a whale’s bones in the middle of the museum. The English language placards for the displays could use better writing because of many textual and grammatical errors.

Whole new experience.. even the skull is real. And the ethnic house is well preserved . It's clean and spacious enough for a lot of visitors.

Each part of the muzium has been presented in a very informative and attractive way...the sound of natural forest can be felt in heart etc. The houses of different tribes in Sabah are also very interesting...

Went there for a family trip, but become a tragedic moment for us when my father in law tripped and fall down while going down to restroom. Broke his clavicle and dislocation of joint. I really appreciate those staff were helping around throughout our process went smoothly. They have first aid box, wheelchairs also available.

It’s a good place to start if you want to know about Sabah. My kids enjoy our visit here. However this place needs some improvement on the interior design and ventilation systems.

Is very worth to visit this place. Very educational. Problem is that please install more spot light so senior citizen don't have to strain theirs's eye.
Teenagers may find the outside museum more interesting. Near to trekking .

Cheap tickets (free entry for senior citizens). Interesting displays, including a whale skeleton, headhunting artefacts, and ancient pottery and stone tools.

This museum holds a special place in my heart, evolving from a childhood fascination to a cherished tradition that persists into my adult years. It's not just a museum; it's a haven of memories, where countless hours have been spent exploring the wonders within its walls with my dad.

When I was a kid, one of the shopkeepers, whose warm demeanor remains etched in my mind, once gifted me an enamel brooch pin, a gesture that left an indelible mark in my heart.

It's my hope that the museum management considers revitalizing and expanding the exhibits to recapture the magic of yesteryears. A fresh infusion of captivating displays could ignite the same sense of wonder and curiosity that drew me in as a child for our future generations.

A big museum in Kota Kinabalu. Many animals, birds and old history of early people in North Borneo presented. It is a fascinating and a place with many of the early Chief Minister and their attire worn are there. A great place to visit. Also worth while visiting the original early peoples Native village just by the side. Can use the cable swaying bridge or concrete steps to reach the Native village. The Staff and people are very helpful and respectful. I enjoyed my very 1st visit to the Sabah Museum. Many foreign tourist also visit it. Shabaas to people of Sabah. Sabah Maju Jaya Always.

Although it is in dire need of renovation and upgrading, but still our kids love visiting the State Museum and we find it very informative. But mind you most of its sections are closed and you need to fill up Google form as an appointment before your visit here. Its their SOP for COVID19.
