Tujuan asal tempat ini di bina ialah untuk di jadikan sebagai Sek. Menengah Teknik Pontian (SMTP) pada 2003 hingga 2010. Kemudian pada 2010, ditukarkan menjadi Kolej Matrikulasi Teknikal Johor (KMTJ) dan pada 2018 di jenamakan semula menjadi KOLEJ MATRIKULASI KEJURUTERAAN JOHOR. (KMKJ).
