The museum of Carey Island tells the history of the island that was started in 1905 by Edward Valentine John Carey. The Englishman planter acquired the island from  Sultan Sir Alaeddin Sulaiman Shah of Selangor to start a rubber plantation and now the island is known as Carey Island or Pulau Carey. Tour in our museum for a walk back towards history to know more about the origins of palm oil and of the company.

Need to register at the guard house before entering. From the entrance to the museum around 15km

Went with an organized guided group tour to learn more about the history and operations of [Sime Darby] palm oil plantations in Malaysia. Of course, accent is put on the positive vision of their business. As expected, there was no mention at all of the devastating effects of deforestation for the orang asli native tribes, the loss of habitat for wildlife, the decline of biodiversity... nevertheless well worth the visit. Then, i'd recommend following this well polished tour with a visit to the nearby village of the Mah Meri Tribe. For me, it was a very sad but insightful moment with an unscripted conversation with some of their inhabitants. Got the two sides of the same coin! For obviously digferent reaaons, I highly recommed both visits!

First of all, this is free-entrance museum located at Carry Island. It is actually not too far away from major towns in Selangor, like Petaling Jaya, Puchong, or Subang Jaya. However, because the way heading to Carey Island will end up using small old roads, so there are many cars outside Carey Island, which will slow down your driving time. Once you enter to Carey Island, you will notice that many plantation lands owned by Sime Darby, and the museum of Plantation is owned by Sime Darby too. In order to reach this museum, once you drive to Carey Island, you have to drive further in to palm oil estate, just follow your GPS directions. Then, you will reach the “Main Gate” of the museum, which is about 10 KM away from the museum, and you will need to go to that “Main Gate” to register. There are police officers at the “Main Gate” area. After that, you just continue driving for about 10 KM, and you will reach the Plantation Museum. Please refer to the detailed photos that I posted here. At the back of the museum, there is a golf club building, in which you can eat nasi lemak breakfast. Anyhow, I encourage you eat something in advance, before going to Carey Island, as it is not easy to find restaurants here. The museum is not big, so you probably just spend about half an hour to one hour here. Right beside that golf clause building, you can see goats, monkeys and some other animals. I believe that this is the only museum which is very close to sea side in Malaysia.

A museum which is situated near the Carey Island Golf Course at Sime Darby plantation site and it’s a museum about the history of the palm oil plantation and the merger of Guthrie - Sime Darby corporation. Outside the museum there is a retired old steam train which carries palm and Land Rover Defender.

This small museum is located on Carey Island near the Carey Island Golf Club. There are exhibits of old tram and steam engine on display outside the museum. These were interesting enough and we did not enter the museum building itself. The museum building looks pretty historical too.

You have to register at the security checkpoint before you can go into the plantation and museum area.
Unfortunately, the museum door is closed even though it was stated as open.
It was a long drive through a beautifully lanscaped palm oil plantation.
You also can found palm oil mills, a post office and an abandoned hospital before you arrive at the museum.
