Brilliant jungle & river cruise experience. Couldn't recommend the experience more. The only catch is getting to and from the camp which is difficult.

BoBoi our guide for the 3 days was very helpful and really enthusiastic. We were lucky to see elephants two days in a row.

They are also doing great conservation work. Which was nice to see.

PS. The photos are just a selection of what we saw while hanging around the camp

Fantastic community initiative, accommodation, tours, and meals. The camp brings you back to nature whilst actually being quite comfortable (other than the abundance of mosquitoes which is to be expected). Our guide Rezwan aka Boboy was always available and deeply passionate about the fauna and flora. I slept like a baby both nights.
Two points of feedback:
- There could be more comfortable chilling areas in the camp (I’m thinking a few hammocks on the deck?)
- I found the website clear but I suggest a better explanation of what the tours offer in simple terms. For example, marking the Supu trip package as “adventure hike a 45 minute boat ride down the river” and the regular package as “relaxed hikes around the camp” informs better.

We were here with a 2 day 1 night package and the best part of the experience besides the actual wildlife sightings was the true eco approach of the organization and the very friendly staff. Accommodation is in little huts, on an elevated level with water view, a downstairs bathroom with proper toilet and sink as well as a bucket shower. The huts are well prepared to take any hard rain shower in the jungle too and are super clean. Electricity in the huts is only for lights, devices can be charged in the common area where meals are taken. Almost no internet connection but that's not a disadvantage, you can concentrate on the jungle walks and boat rides and other activities. Very good food with vegetarian / vegetable options. We saw most animals during the sunset boat cruise and the night walk - proboscis monkeys, different hornbills, kingfisher, macaques, as well as a moon rat, lantern bugs, frogs, spiders, civets, different colorful birds and many more. Highly recommended to come here where wildlife protection and eco forest mindest is the base of everything.

Unforgettable experience at Tungog Rainforest Eco Camp! During my nine-night volunteer program with KOPEL, While I was helping with the forest restoration process from seed collecting to tree planting and maintenance. I also joined night walks, morning walks, and river cruises, spotting a variety of mammals and birds. The camp desk itself is a viewpoint and platform for wildlife-watching, where we can see hornbills, orangutans, proboscis monkeys, macaques, and squirrels. The jungle sounds at night are an added bonus.
Although I didn't see crocodiles during the river cruises due to the high water level, I did see baby crocodiles on the way to the planting site. If you're looking for an immersive nature experience, I highly recommend the Kopel volunteer program (check out their website for more information ).
Kudos to the Kopel team for their efforts and contributions to:
- Developing biodiversity and ecosystem for the rainforest by planting trees and covering open areas with greenery.
- Protecting the animals and creating a safe place for them to stay, as evidenced by the orangutans coming to the new planted forest.
- Educating and cooperating with locals to facilitate the sustainable growth of nature and economy, employing all staff from the four villages along the Kinabatangan River.
In order to protect the wildlife, they use bio products to replace chemical, cooking and laundry are outside the eco camp. Trash is bringing back to the village. Solar electricity 24/7. No wifi, 4G. Be “here and now” with the nature
My appreciation and respect for everyone who contributes to and protects our nature, Kopel and you.

This is one of the most special places we've ever visited. The ecocamp is right in the middle of the jungle and, if you're lucky, the orang utans will come close to the camp.
KOPEL has something really special going on which deserves nothing less than 5* review.
I sincerely hope that we'll ever be able to come back to this place again.

We had a brilliant time during the 3D2N stay. Our guide Boboi was amazing and told us all about Kopel and the wildlife around. Staying in the camp alone is so special, you see so many animals before heading out on the cruises and treks. Absolutely loved every minute of it

The 3 days in the Eco camp where definitely the highlight in our 3 weeks in Sabah!
Our guide Azman was absolutely great, one of the best guides we ever had. He taught us so much about the rain forest and its wildlife and also about the life of the local people and the KOPEL organization which does an amazing job to protect this area.
The camp is basic but it does have all you need and fits perfect into the forest.
The amount of animals we saw within the 3 days was amazing but the highlight where the Orangutans which were eating in the trees right above our hut.
We can definitely recommend staying here!

We did the 2 day 1 night stay at this eco camp in the rainforest. One of the best experiences of my life. The local guides are amazing and know so much about the area and animals. The eco camp is truly eco friendly and basic - keep this in mind if you like more “comfortable” places to sleep. High cabins with mattresses which are on floor with fly nets - still slept fine. Shower is with bucket and cold water, toilet is western normal toilet. Food is basic but still delicious for a basic traveller. If you love truly authentic experiences this is for you. We saw lots of wildlife and our guides went out of their way to make sure we did. Love what they are doing at this place and we are very grateful.

We had the most wonderful experience doing the 3 day 2 night package (Including the Supu Ancient Trail). Everything was perfect from start to finish. The food was delicious with plenty of veg and fruit. The camp is lovely and the accomodation is great considering you are in the rainforest! We were busy doing activities the whole time and saw so many amazing animals on the river cruises & night walks. We especially enjoyed the tree planting experience which was a really nice touch. Adam our guide was exceptional and a big thanks to him for giving us the best experience possible.

A few notes:
- Trekking that takes place around the camp is very muddy and will require boots or wellies (make sure to get wellies from the office if you do not have any)
- Torch's are essential (also available at the office)
- The ancient trail is unique in that only Tungog have access to it. It is however a little dangerous hiking to the top and down into the cave but it is totally worth it as both experiences were amazing.

It was definitely the highlight of my trip to Malaysia. The river cruises and jungle walks were spectacular. We got to see and learn about a variety of macaques, monkeys and hornbills among other animals in Borneo. We even spot an orangutan and a crocodile. The meals provided were great, too. Our guides, Ray and Jan, were very knowledgeable and you can feel their love and passion for nature and the community. I will definitely recommend everyone who visits Sabah to stay in the camp for a few nights here.

This was so far the greatest experience in our life. Not just only 'cause of the amazing nature but also a real eye-opener about reality of rainforests and palmoil-industry in this side of the world and how its balanced nowadays between saving our massive lungs of the planet and local peoples economic.

We spent in ecocamp for 4days and got the best out of the life in rainforest 'cause our absolutely great guide Azman! His enthusiasm and interest towards animals and plants is astonishing. Very humble and warmhearted soul.
It wasn't the best time to see sertain animals for ex. crocodiles (cause low water level), but we still managed to see few one! Also oranqutans were hiding but with a persitant trekking we spotted them also! A very hawkeyed professional guide!
Of course we saw a LOT of different and interesting animals/bugs and plants and took a part with planting trees for reviving the rainforest😊.
A very strong recommendation if you want to see and experience a small piece of the real truth about whats happening on the planet between humans and ecosystem and see some real wildlife! 5star and beyond🙏

Amazing place to visit. Such a nice experience. Highly recommend to give them a visit. There is so much to see and the guides are super knowledgeable. Also the huts are very nice. It is simple, but suits perfect in the jungle.
We saw a lot of beautiful animals and enjoyed the walks a lot. Also the food and the resting area of the camp are very nice. Just an amazing place

Love the way the camp is being run and managed. It tries to be as low impact to the environment as possible. The guides and support team were excellent, always warm, friendly and helpful.

If you are prepared to give up some creature comforts, be disconnected from the Internet, this camp will be an experience of a lifetime.

Had the most incredible 2N3D stay here l, genuinely cannot recommend this place highly enough. We saw so much incredible wildlife, the accommodation was great, and the food was amazing (including some of the best vegetarian options I’ve had in Malaysia). Finally our guide Adam was incredible, so knowledgeable and super friendly - we miss you already! Such an amazing community-based tourism project, I’ll definitely be back!

10 out of 5 stars!

If you want to go and check out wildlife in the jungle and also care about who and what your money goes to support, stay here.

We stayed for 4 days. We were assigned to a local guide, who guided us through 4 amazing days of boat cruises on the river, morning, afternoon, and night walks in the jungle, and spots to learn about local culture and history.

You will stay on a camp deck, which is like a little tree house in the jungle. You’ll start the day with jungle walks or sunrise river cruises, and have access to your guide for activities all day (but also have free time to relax or nap off the early wake up). You’ll have your own bathroom under the deck.

We saw 4 of the Big 5 while there (which is subject to luck but seems pretty representative) as well as lots of other amazing once in a lifetimes spottings.

Asman was our guide, and he was really great. He guided us through the area and provided so much information, not just about the wildlife, but also the local economy, social issues, and the history of the coop KOPEL, of which this is a part.

There are a lot of places you can go to see wildlife in Borneo, but I’m not sure there are as many opportunities to support such a good operation with such a great mission.

Tungog is part of KOPEL, a cooperative made up of 300 people in 4 villages, all of whom work together to provide sustainable livelihoods for local people, which allows families to resist economic pressures
to engage in destructive economic practices like palm farming. In doing so, they’ve also created an operation that helps preserve an important habitat, educated the public about the importance of biodiversity, and provides visitors with unique experiences that reinforce a respect for Borneo’s natural resources.

The only negative reviews I’ve seen are about the accommodations, which are exactly what I would expect in a free house in the jungle, and exactly what I wanted. Lucky for you, if you want to support this mission, there is also a place a few meters away from their office, called Mandi Homestay, where you can have more creature comforts but also see Borneo wildlife while supporting a great cause.

Also to note: it’s very easy to get here by bus from Sandakhan. The twice daily busses to Tawau will stop at KOPEL junction if you ask them to, and you can ask the Tungog staff for the bus drivers” phone numbers to arrange your transport away.

After traveling for two months I was elated to have home cooked meals around a table with great people in a place that few people are lucky enough to ever experience.

I really love these guys. Support them, and enjoy a great stay.

We stayed 3 days/2nights and it was amazing - It’s a very peaceful and beautiful place, the guides are very experienced and knowledgeable. Budin was a really good guide, he did his best to show us around and we managed to see loads of wildlife. Really recommend, it has been a perfect stay.

Incredible experience as we were the only guests! We were there in rainy season but only had an hour ortwo of showers a day (in the middle of the day when you are having downtime anyway). incredible and unique setting, true isolation. The team were fantastic and we spotted a mother and baby orangutan and had time with them for about 20 minutes. An incredible way to experience this amazing area and to support a local business. Email is best for communication.

We did the 3D2N trip and it was absolutely brilliant. Our guide, Azman, was so knowledgable and fantastic at finding wildlife for us. We were lucky enough to see 6 orangutans, and countless other animals. The camp set up, food etc. was pretty good too. Can’t recommend enough!
