Totally amazing, especially the last cave, La Cueva de las Pinturas. It is an easy climb with steps all the way. 300 pesos for 5 caves. You will find your local guide waiting for you at the car park. Our guide was Cirilo who is very knowlegeable and very patient.

Great workout hiking to see all these cool caves. We enjoyed learning about the history of the people who were once living there and the cave paintings are beautiful.

An amazing tour of 5 prehistoric caves guided by local community members. There are many excellent paintings that are actively being restored. The tour lasts 1_1.5 hours and does involve some uphill hiking in exposed conditions. Cost is MX300 for 2 or possibly more persons. Worth every peso. Supports both the conservation of the site and the local indigenous community.

It's hard to put into words how amazing this place is. First of all our Zapotec guide didn't speak English, and we don't speak Spanish, but he tried his best to explain so much to us, so much so we understood 99%. The guide was a lovely guy, and besides the caves taught us about local plants used for medicinal purposes and food. He even let us try these wild growing seeds.
As far as the caves go, they are amazing and really show signs of ancient inhabitation. He were able to hold ancient obsidian blades and grinding stones in our hands - artifacts held by people 10,000 years ago, which was quite profound. He also "asked" the caves for permission to enter in Zapotec, which was also an experience in itself.
The cave paintings are a must see for anyone fascinated with ancient civilisations. Our guide explained their interpretations in a lot of detail. It was really incredible and gives us an insight onto the minds of those ancient people.
Knowing that the money will be supporting the local community, makes the visit even more rewarding in my opinion. I think this is a must see, and thanks to our amazing guide!

It's a really underrated and still quite unknown place near Oaxaca city. We enjoyed our tour with a super friendly guide, who showed us around 5 caves, shared a lot of stories and anecdotes about the region. I definitely recommend anyone to stop by.

Great half day trip from Mitla.
Take a moto taxi from Mitla for 30 pesos per person.
Entrance is 50 pesos and the optional guide is 200. The English guide Evelia was fantastic and highly recommended. The tour takes about 1-1.5 hours. Afterwards if you still have energy ask about how to get to the Devil's Cave across the highway.
To get back to Mitla it's either a nice 1 hour walk back or you will soon find a taxi or hitchhike (like we did).

Caves with prehistoric drawings. Worth a visit if you are in Mitla. You need a local guide to access. Sometimes they hangout at entrance - if not, you cannot get in. Ask around in Mitla. Our guide was Pepe, who was fantastic. He didn't speak English, but Spanish is his second language, so he speaks very slowly and clearly.

Feel so lucky I got to visit this place before it's overrun by tourists. Much more fun than the archeological site in town.
Muchas gracias to our guide Evelia who aptly shared her genuine passion for this site in fluent English.
We didn't book anything, you just show up and they come find you.

My boyfriend and I took the trip with David. Even though we spoke little to no Spanish and he spoke little to no English, we loved the gorgeous views of the mountain and once in a lifetime archeological sites. We had fun trying to communicate in different languages, while David was still able to convey the main concepts of the caves through hand gestures. Very affordable at ~ 16$ USD per person! Do it or else

Definitely recomend visiting! A guide seems mandatory now. Some caves are locked otherwise due to vandalism. But it is well worth it. Our guide pepe gave a very interesting and passionate tour. He talked not only about the archelogical findings, but also the fauna and flora and current Zapoteca culture, which was very interesting.
Thank you very much Pepe!

This rare find was quite amazing. See it before it becomes commercialized

Other than the food, this was the highlight of our trip to Oaxaca. It is incredible to know more about Mexico, the Zapotecs, and history as these caves are over 10,000 years old.
Strongly recommend visiting and tipping your guide a little extra!

Fabulous and sacred place. Reached by a uphill ascent with lots of views and information provided by local guides; our guide Evelia was phenomenal! Lots of fascinating information on the area and their colectivo’s efforts in preserving an amazing big cat habitat, rare flora and fauna and amazing rock art in caves. Incredible!

This is the most fun I had falling off a horse which I did while discounting, saved by my hydration pack. These visits are guided by the people who live here. For them, this isn't just archeology, this is just about family history - they are that connected to this land and their ancestors. Worth doing.

Wow, simply amazing. Ask locals on how to arrive and do not rely on Google maps. Local tour guide on site is highly recommended.

The guide was very informative. This is a good 45-60 minute hike in and out. Make sure to bring water and wear sunblock.

Fabulous guides. Amazing caves and archaeology. Zero tourists. It’s only a matter of time before this appears in lonely planet and becomes overrun. Come while you can.

The only place able to reach during the Corona epedemic. Take care to check all the caves. The cool paitings are in the highest one nearly on top of the cliff. Most of the other caves have no paitings. I also liked the flora around, intersting trees.

Must see if you are in the area. Have some good hiking shoes, it is some uphill walking.
